I just saw a sign in front of XPO here in Des Moines Iowa. They're looking for owner operators paying a $1.02/mi. What kind of idiot would work for free like that? Or am I really missing something here?

Someone will come along just graduated from 30 cents, sees 1.02 a mile thinking that is a good deal, goes lease purchases a truck and thinks he can make it.

Even if they did that, paid for plates, and 2290 at 5.5 mpg you would only see the equivalent of about $1.67/mi. Not even worth getting out of of bed for!

You're competing with self insured, low paid drivers in trucks averaging 8 mpg. It doesn't make sense to them to pay more than that. They aren't doing this to offer a fair wage or cover their overflow, they're just outsourcing.

I'm not going to waste my breath addressing to use of the word Fair. Honestly they have the right to offer whatever wage they feel like. And I will support their right and their decision to offer whatever amount they choose.
The problem is people who decide that they are worth no more that's such a pathetically low amount. People being willing to work for so little are why rates are the way they are. The funny part is those are the very same people that call you a liar what do you tell them that you can average two to three dollars per mile consistently.
I just don't get why people are so willing to subject themselves to that.
