Looking for some advise on this.

I personally want an 18 speed for all my trucks but the skill of most drivers now a days just doesn’t allow it.

So between the Automatic Eaton and the 6 speed Allison it is.

My sales guy told me I’m allowed to get a 5 year unlimited mileage on the Allison so I’m wondering if that will be the best bet for my new trucks.

We run 100,000lbs daily on 90% highway 10% off road. I would prefer a 605/2050 565/1850 engine but would go down to a 500/1850 if that only allows the 6 speed.

Looking for some mechanical advise on this because I’ve always ran standard my whole life.

When I was at MBI, I ran a double bottom from new with a DD13 and a 6 speed Allison. 105500+ all day and all night (had a night driver). I ran the Lone Butte field back on Long X road and the badlands west of 85. Absolutely tortured that transmission and it never died.

I'd take an Allison. My uncle works for the PA tpike and he said the Allison's have outlasted any automated they've had. Plus if you mash down on the throttle you actually GO and don't get rocked to hell and back because it can't select a freaking gear

If you want manual 18 speeds, then get them. Leave those that can’t operate on the sidelines. It’s your workforce, nobody else’s. You want a better class of driver? You hire a better class of driver, period.

The Allison will likely have better overall reliability vs the automated Ultrashift plus. However, the Allison 4500 will not take severe abuse under heavy haul conditions. Take care of it and service it regularly. Get your wallet out on the purchase and when/if the Allison breaks. Service locations are few and far in between for internal work. If I was your driver and I had to pick given the options, I would want Allison.

    What power are you using?

I drove a mx 455 hp with their version of the eaton endurant transmission and pulled 100,000 lbs across the Canadian Rockies . I will say that I was impressed with that transmission especially the creep mode in heavy traffic going uphill . I never off roaded it though. I’m a die hard manual guy but liked that transmission.

    Paccar 12 speed.

Eaton is working on an 18 speed version of that very trans. None in production yet I am aware of.

No issues in slow mud and highway?! That’s good to hear.

What was your rear end ( if you remember ) and what about top speed on the highway ?

I'm not sure on the rear axle ratio. But it was like 2000 rpm at 70 lol! 4.xx I'm sure.

I ran mud, deep mud, triple rail chains on both drives, snow, etc etc. Personally I loved it. Just held it to the floor and it did the rest.
