As I'm sure many of you are aware of, my plan was to escape trucking come January 5th. However, it appears that time may have to be pushed out a year.
My wife is going to have to endure some medical treatments just recently approved by the government, and unfortunately not covered by insurance (at least not at the present time). My intended career pursuit has evolved more slowly than I had hoped and planned for several reasons. All this combined means another year of travel.
My lease is up Jan. 5th. Given that I have zero desire for this to turn into a multi-year detour and therefore do not wish to purchase a truck, it looks like I'm headed for a one-year lease. I still need the scheduling freedom and refuse to be a company hand, and have made sufficient income as a L/O to keep me and Mrs.48 satisfied.
Certainly not what I had hoped for, but life is a series of twists and turns. BTW, any other suggestions are welcomed.

Look into Schneider IC. Leases from 12-36 months and you book your own freight.

I'm there now. Started 1/5/15, so I'm wrapping up a 3-year lease.

The shortest i think they do now is 18mos..now with that being said, it could be different for you since you've been here a while..

I need to contact my rep tomorrow anyway. Guess I'll find out then. Thanks for the heads up.

Is it a "purchase"..as in, when your done, the truck is yours to do as you see fit?
If you're happy there, I'd do as you are planning and stay with them. Taking your truck to someone with the same load choice freedom like Landstar or Mercer would mean learning the in's and out's of their system. Staying there would only mean you have to ride their freight rate roller coaster.SingingWolf and 48Packard Thank this. -
No...there's a residual at lease end. Too much for that truck though. Way too much. A new lease would be the way I'd go as the expenses would be nearly identical. And I agree with the learning curve if I jumped ship. I'm looking at this as a temporary setback and have no intention of driving into my 60s. I'll be 57 in November.SingingWolf Thanks this.
