I am in CDL school as of right now . But wanted to know if I can apply for my TWIC & hazmat right now because I see that I have to set an appointment. I am hoping to be done with this school by the middle of next month.
You have to do the TSA background check first. I would do that now because it will take about 4 weeks to get that back.
TWIC is a whole different process not related to the hazmat one. Mine is near renewal and here's the letter they send out here.
I did the fingerprinting on September 8, 2021. I have been back and forth with the TSA on this and supposedly my TWIC will finally be mailed next Monday. We shall see, but not holding my breath. And this is after I had just passed the same background check for my Hazmat the month before, in August. Their excuse is that they are short staffed and behind with so many trying to get the Haz, Twic or TSA Pre-Chek thing for flying.
They have to do a background check on both Haz and TWIC. They don't run them concurrently, they will run two background checks on the same person. That's your government for ya lol
Endorsement can be stored and added at the same time you upgrade your license… meaning you can go and take the test and pass your endorsements before you upgrade to a cdl.. if you got access to do so I’d go and take all endorsement tests asap. That way when you pass school you can just pay for the endorsements to be added at the same time.. They do require separate background checks for Twic and haz. If you hadn’t already I’d get the background check done today or first thing in the morning as it takes time to come back.
Walked in today. Couldn't get the hazmat done. The guy was saying I will have to get something from DMV first. Stopped by DMV after doing TWIC, and they were closed for New Year day. But it's cool, I'll go back tomorrow. The lady at DMV told me I had to wait till I got my license first. These people are backwards. I will ask a different person from DMV tomorrow. I got some free time, mind as well use it.
