I have a dilemma that only another driver can solve. I've got my CDL learners permit but do not have a sponsor or driving school behind me. I'd like to make an appointment to take my rig to the DPS in New Braunsfels or San Antonio Texas for the driving test but cannot do so legally without a licensed commercial driver with me. Can I pay someone to ride along?

Maybe........you'll probably have to get a sponsor or go to school. That's the easiest route to getting a CDL.

    Sure.
Take out a CL ad explaining what you need and prepare to compensate them for it $$$

Call the 3rd party testing sites that are a school based location. I did mine in
PA at a school that also did 3rd party and used their truck and trailer for an additional fee.

A few have pointed out using a 3rd party/school test site, this is actually a very good suggestion. For a reasonable fee, you may be able to use their equipment for the test. This does a few things. If you are running a hot shot (1 ton DWR and trailer, you will have restrictions on your license. Using a class 7/8 tractor and trailer with a manual transmission will not have restrictions placed on it (provided you did the air brake test for the permit)

You're in TX...no one is going to stop you on the way to DMV as long as you don't hit anything.

If you insist on playing by the rules, there are enough oil patch drivers out there that aren't doing anything right now that could use a couple extra C notes. I agree with placing a Craigslist ad and seeing if you get any responses.

I think the EXAMINER may have an issue with it!
