I have a 2 year DOT card that I obtained in September. The state has the 2 year date recorded on my new CDL.
I’m looking at joining one of the big companies as a new CDL driver. They do a new DOT physical with their own doctors. If for some reason they certify me for less than 2 years, would that new card be reported to the state and supersede my existing 2 year card?
Company DOT physical

Yes, the newest physical supercedes the older one.
Some companies don't require a new physical as long as your current card has a few months left on it.Last edited: Nov 15, 2019
Lepton1, CrappieJunkie and x1Heavy Thank this. -
You have to register it your self, they do not do it, they do cancel your old one.
BUMBACLADWAR and Chinatown Thank this. -
That sounds ####ty that they have the authority to override and cancel an existing one. Do all DOT certified physicians have that ability?
-
Yes. If your concerned about something, then go with a company that doesn't require a new physical.BUMBACLADWAR, x1Heavy and Tx Countryboy Thank this.

I guess I am a bit. In all likelihood there won’t be any issues, as I work hard on staying in shape. But one never knows.Chinatown Thanks this.

It is not called ability, it is called requirement, from what the doc told me.Lepton1, CrappieJunkie, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this.

Thanks, it’s helpful to understand how this all works.

This makes me wonder then.. what if the Older physical still has plenty of time on it but you failed a physical after getting the original one.x1Heavy Thanks this.
-
The failed one is what you now have, that is one of the reasons they are required to cancel the old one, even if it is just a week old.BUMBACLADWAR and x1Heavy Thank this.
