In previous businesses that I have been involved in, I was never able to get past the threshold of business use vs personal use of my cell phone to take a deduction.
However, times have changed and cell phones aren't just phones any more. It's not as simple as getting a list of calls and if more than half are for business then the deduction may be allowed. My phone is a multipurpose communications device that is a requirement. My data plan is necessary to receive load information, etc.
So anyway, has any of your tax preparers or CPAs figured out how to do this yet? I'm going to run this past a new tax rep that I'm going to be meeting with soon, but wanted to see how others are handling it.

Absolutely - 3 phones and 2 tablets. I can justify easily how and why all are used in the business.
CPA agrees and has deducted accordingly.DsquareD Thanks this. -
I deduct, doing my own taxes, 50% of my phone bill (plan)... I am going to deduct 50% of my sirious sat radio this year...lol
-
Deduct the whole lot - XM is for weather and industry updates, cell phone - your wife is your dispatcher (wether or not she is) therefore you both need one, and to hot spot your laptop.
Plenty of threads on here regarding tax deductions. -
I know a guy who gets receipts for his tattoos and writes them off as Entertainment lol
scottlav46 and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
You deduct them and if they have a problem with it, they'll send you a letter.
It amazes me people do all this hand wringing on things just write it down and send it off.DsquareD Thanks this. -
Waste of time trying to figure out what was business and what is personal, just deduct all of your phone expenses.
tsavory, DsquareD and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I also deduct my cable bill at the house because I use the internet at home to dispatch myself.
DsquareD Thanks this. -
Thats how I do it. Both mine and my wife's phones are deducted... the $3000 gaming laptop is deducted, my $300 gps, boots, rain gear, work gloves, pretty much anything I buy out on the road away from home is deducted.. everything from some nuts n bolts from a hardware store to tools or sun glasses.
Itemized to the oomphtenth degree. I never owe irs.
Hurstblairandgretchen and DsquareD Thank this. -
I put an office in one room nice desk and all. At least I looked important when the did my audit back in 2008.
Deduct it all is my motto.
