I drive a company C15 pre-emissions 13 speed and really like it. My last assigned truck was a '15 Pete with emissions. I had nothing but problems the DEF. Now I'm looking to move forward into ownership and am trying to avoid it. Does every truck go through difficulty at 3-500k with this BS system?
DEFinately unsure about it

It IS a BS system and I aint never touched one yet. Be ###### if I do.
I would be idling at 1500 set to make sure the thing wont go into regen or something stupid inside the GWB the following morning. -
I haven’t had issues out of the after treatment. I’ve had two higher mileage DEF trucks. One did well and the other was a fleet truck with high idle time. The idle time will clog the EGR components under the hood. As long as you follow the maintenance schedule from the manufacturer and don’t idle a lot, they work fine.

Who do you drive for, and what brand of truck are you in?

No, if every truck did, a lot of companies would be out of business.larry2903 Thanks this.

I had a 2012 freightliner and I spent upwards of $16k last year on def alone... motor messed up and I got a kw now pre def... It's a C15 cat acert twin turbo 475 hp. Runs great.. so if you can find something pre def I would definitely go for it.
There is a group on Facebook called big rig buy, sell, and trade. They got guys selling pre def trucks all the time. Enjoy it while you can cause if the govt has their way by 2022 you wont be able to have any truck on the road 2003 or older... -
You had a lemon and decided to go with an acert? Aren't they also known for their problems? 2012 they were just figuring it out and they've improved a lot. Hopefully the law restricts the highest polluting trucks because we're really getting screwed with climate change.

I actually like an acert... I really enjoy this truck has all the power I need. It had an overhaul when I bought it. I haul dry van and my loads are around 18k loads all the time.. so easy running...

I wouldn’t know so I’m only asking. Don’t large companies buy new trucks and filter them out before they are liable for out of warranty repairs? So I would think yes, an owner operator should avoid a used higher mileage epa truck unless they want to deal with problemsChevyCam, Opendeckin, Derailed and 1 other person Thank this.

Idling is what kills these trucks. I don't let drivers live in the truck for those reasons. We do a lot of idling to load and unload so idling on your ten hours of just leads to problems
