I'm driving an '07 Freightliner with Detroit Series 60 engine. Based out of OKC I ran a load up to North Dakota last week, got back to OKC on Friday and had the truck washed yesterday morning (including the engine). Temperature was around 20°F when it was washed, but got above freezing during the day.
After letting the truck sit without idling in the sun I went to check all my fluids. The dip stick will not budge. I can turn it, but it won't even begin to come out. Anyone else have this problem and know how to get it to release without risking breaking off the handle?
I can rule out frozen water, I ran the engine to warm it and no difference.

It's the troll that lives in the crankcase of Detroit engines and causes the oil leaks. He's being ornery.
-
That's an odd one - hope someone has had this before!
-
Never had it stuck in the hole, once in a while I had issues getting it all the way in the hole, but once it was in it always came out easy.
AND GET YOUR FREAKIN HEADS OUT OF THE GUTTER. kthx.
rachi, blairandgretchen and jammer910Z Thank this. -
Boy that title leaves it wide open for soooo many smart ### remarks..... LOL
You know like, Unlock the door so you can open it....
This is just too easy, I'll stop now. Sorry I have no remedy for the real situation though. -
My brother told me the tube entering the oil pan may have been bent, pinching the end of the stick. I'll probably go to the Freightshaker dealership and try to really reef on it. If it breaks, they are right there.

I think you could unbolt the dipstick tube and pull the whole assembly free.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
That would drain the oil, wouldn't it? If it gets to that I'll use the owner's mechanic.

No, The stick is longer then the shaft, tho you want to make sure no debris gets inside when pulling it off. Also may seem like a no brainier but make sure the engine is off.

Given your first reply, and my mind in the gutter - that is just plain WEIRD
