They honored mine... of course they tried to get me to stay. They routed me to the Laredo terminal(I live in San Antonio) and allowed me to return my truck on the day I requested. Even let me stop at the house first to unload all my personal items. They thanked me for returning the truck in such good condition and so professonally, I left with smiles and hand~shakes. They put nothing negative on my DAC and still send me birthday and Christmas cards.... recruiting of course but they come every year and its been 8yrs snce I left.

Just get to a terminal, clean out the truck, take pics and say I quit.
Do companies give a driver 2 week notice before firing them. No.
As a matter of fact they wouldn't give you a slightest hint of what is about to happen.
Where do these double standards come from I don't know -
No matter how they treat you, burning bridges in this industry is an excellent way to start seeking employment in a different industry. Move on to grener pastures with your head held high and do the 'right' thing. It will benifit you in the future.
70s_driver, d o g, HalpinUout and 2 others Thank this. -
I know what you mean. And I know you mean well. Everyone is treated with respect till something goes wrong. It's a voluntary employment and it's hypocritical of a big company to ask of any kind of notice when they don't give any. And I promise you that you definitely won't burn any bridges if you return equipment and quit. I am not talking about small companies where it might make a difference.
In Werner any driver is just a number, you don't owe anything to them like they don't owe anything to you.
It's a slave job with a slave pay, if it makes you feel better then ok, but they certainly don't deserve 2 weeks or one day for that mater if you found something better.
Don't worry, they already recruited and have a thousand drivers waiting for the spot you are going to leave open. -
I'm still up in the air about a two week notice. I have a feeling I could park it and quit, and still have a job should I ever want to return. I guess I don't see the necessity of a notice. At my old job I had to train my replacement and I was a valued asset. If I would have just up and left my old job they would have been screwed.
I work for a training company, all they do is throw in a new steering wheel holder. If I was on something dedicated or worked for a small company that would be a different story.
Has anyone heard of a DAC report for suddenly quitting? -
Unless your on the outs with them or they have been giving you the rectal probe, I would contact whomever and notify them of your intentions. If your on good terms with them then try to keep it that way when you leave just because its a stand up thing to do, not because of the foolsih DAC. Maybe its just me, but I could care less what that thing said. People have no control over what these companies put on there although they may think they do. Any good company worth working for wont take a DAC report seriously anyways.
Cottonmouth85 Thanks this. -
I don't even know what "honor" means in this context.
Will they boot you the instant you give notice? Depends on what they think of you, I reckon.
If you're a professional, you give 2 weeks notice, period. If you're a professional driver, you'll be ready to exit the truck 2 minutes after you give notice, and have another gig waiting on you.
If you have less than 1 year experience I'd recommend you stay put until you get it.
Drivers tend to be fond of up-and-quitting when they are emotionally distraught. Don't do that under any circumstances.Cottonmouth85, bergy and 70s_driver Thank this. -
Well said.
I had thought if was to give a two week notice I would have the truck all cleaned out and ready to turn in. Just run out of a duffle bag last two weeks out. But if they say we need the truck, and accept my two weeks on the spot, all I'd have to do is throw them the keys. -
They should honor a two week notice.
