Not trying to stir up anything so am posting this here and not in the
political forum. Wondering what states allowing recreational marijuana
means for trucking companies. Some states are allowing it, some
aren't. Will companies eventually stop testing for this?

If states allow recreational marijuana will people who use it move
to those states? I am assuming that even if your home state allows it you
can not use it in states that don't allow its use. Will marijuana eventually just
be another form of tobacco? I guess the company can decide want they want
to permit in their company, whether the law permits it or not.

Should the company start hiring these people if/or when the law permits it?
Anybody hear what insurance companies are talking about? Will they allow
employees to use marijuana or will they refuse coverage?

I believe that the federal government is going to trump state government that allows recreational marijuana being still illegal on the federal level.I also believe that marijuana is still listed as reportable on a us dot prescribed drug and alcohol test either pre employment or random

Interstate trucking is regulated by the feds and marijuana use is prohibited. Period.

Intrastate trucking could possibly allow marijuana use if it is legalized in a specific state... but I wouldn't hold it in waiting. :D

The FMCSA is a federal entity. All laws that regulate the transportation industry are federal laws. State laws are irrelavent when it comes to the regulation of commercial transport guidelines.

It was recently voted okay for recreational use in Maine 51/49... We'll see how it's handled.

But yeah, Federal Govt says you can't use it because of the sensitive functions of your work (and they still see it as illegal, regardless of what your state says) then your Trucking company: Regulated by the Feds, is obligated to follow their rules.
