Your post really hit home with me. I also had a talk like yours with my nephew. I brought up the old adage, "You need to study hard, so you can go to college, and get a good job".
I asked him which of the three parts of that sentence was most important. "Get a good job, of course!", he replied.
"No", I said. "The most important is, 'study hard'. Because by studying hard, working hard, and doing the difficult things necessary to achieve your goals becomes a habit."
I think he got it.

I think the OP's 2-ish year career has included;
CRE
Swift,
USX,
local roll off,
local dump truck,
JB Hunt,
Saia,
JB Hunt
That is really quite impressive. -
Wow, that averages a tad less than three months per job. Kind of like a young man that easily falls in love, but doesn't have a clue about commitment, then wonders why none of his loves last.

Switch to heavy equipment...run an excavator or something, much funner, often pays better, not on roads with the random stupid public anymore, and it suits the driving kinda guys anyway
I never met a trucker who wouldnt pass on the opportunity to hop on a backhoe and try to dig a hole...
So thats my answer
Lease idea tragically bad for all 345 reasons listed on 459 thousand pages here on this site...Leases (fleeces) are for them, not you...
They sucker a lot of guys into it because guys are stupid, in general
Oh look at me, I have a 90 thousand dollar Kenworth now, no money down!! And this is after a repo, and I screwed over the phone company!! What a country, boy am I slick!!
Yea me!!! I went from zero to hero buisness man with a simple signature!!!
NOT !!!!
Definately not coding either...My family is in that buisness, very repetative monotnous crappy work dealing with doctors from egypt talkin nasty to you etc etc...You code wrong, your screwed...A mediocre paying unsatisfying job..
If a guy gets a coke bottle stuck in his bum, there is a code for that, if it was in a airplane, theres a modifier code that goes behind it, if the plane was higher than 30 thousand feet, theres an additional modifiers, it ridiculous...I used to flip open the book randomly for comedy..
Go where the money is if your willing to school up on something entirely new..Be a vet, or a dental assistant, or get into web development...
Get a small geology degree and intern in the oilpatch..soon we will be the worlds gas station and the petroleum engineers will be making all the coin...oil and gas, yesLast edited: Dec 31, 2015

Im thinking about getting a degree in Diesel/Heavy equipment, they will require you a CDL-which you already have and pay is great once you graduate. You'll be able to be home every night and still be around truck/heavy equipment earning a decent pay.

I'd like to call it a generational gap thing,.. but I had friends who were destined to become drug addicts and job hoppers when I was coming up as well.
Both of my kids dont seem to be able to focus on goals let alone make goals. Their priorities seem to be for the 'Now' and not 'Tomorrow'.
Daughter left home at 18 to run off with her 27yr old stoner boyfriend who cant keep a job. She'll be 20 next month and in that time they have lived in 7 or 8 different places ( I gave up trying to keep track) because of problems with landlords, neighbors or other people in general. Neither can keep a job. Each will quit a job before finding another and then deny responsibility when the electric gets turned off or they have to find another place. She will wait until it costs $400 to get the electric turned back on instead of asking for the $100 she needed to keep it on. She lives for one drama after another. Its always something. Eventually I know I am going to have to cut her off in order to teach her a hard lesson in reality. I just dont want her to end up on the street too angry to ask me for help.
My son who is doing really well, has other issues that drive me insane. He has 2 jobless buddies living with him that eat all his food, burn up his electric bill, crashed his car, sit around playing Sony all day. He complains to me about them yet refuses to take my advice and do anything about it. I told him,.. its going to come to a head where you are going to lose them as friends because eventually you will find the right girl and she's not going to put up with permanent house guests living on your couch. She will force you to make a choice and I hope you do the right thing.
I talk with friends who have the same problems with their kids. The common theme seems to be a lack ambition to do anything,.. including looking for a job. I guess as long as we keep enabling them, we are feeding the problem.
Hurstcatalinaflyer, Lepton1 and GoneButNotForgotten Thank this. -

had that problem a few years ago. they were supposed to help take the edge off in return but the girl quit her job and her bf never had 1. all they did was ADD to expenses and leave the windows open but crank the heat. i kicked their ##### out tho. -
Oh god. That's true.
I have friends I grew up with and all they are into is drugs. Being roomies, sleeping at parents couches, and so on. Dating drug addicted waitresses and 7/11 girls that chain smoke a carton behind a dumpster on their 5-10 minute break. Sony is there. iPhone is there. Weed is there. Black Friday deals are there, still have to ask for $50 to get them "through the week". On facebook their philosophers, and their photos are full of "good times". Another ones are the college kids. Every summer, yay!!! During semesters they're crying about money food and books. Don't know what they're even studying for. They're just paying to keep going to class.
I cut these people out at the age of 22. F*** them. Your kids should learn.
