do you feel that new truckers rushing to become an owner operator is the norm now? Are too many new guys getting in trucks with only 300$ in the bank and expecting to make twice what a company driver makes? Why all the rushing? what has caused drivers to graduate from cdl school and go straight to looking for a truck? Is this just a new trend in the past 10 years, or has this always been apart of the industry ?

Yes. Yes. Don't know. Probably because working for other people sucks. I don't know, that's a good question.

The bar does need to be set a little higher to get your own authority........

Like maybe be able to speak and write in English......for starters.

None, they go on FB pages, family, friends, and possibly forums that speak their language. Would you join a Russian forum if you were going to move to Russia to drive a truck or would you seek out tens of thousands who have done it before you for advice? Then, once you got to Russia through chain migration you could bring dozens of your family members and become citizens and put them to work too and make the big bucks!?

Oh yeah, no you wouldn’t because Russia would say get F’d. Insert any other country in place of my example.

It’s because 2017 and 2018 were great years and people read about it and it becomes a gold rush of sorts. Problem is by the time you read about it, it’s too late and the ship has sailed to reference a thread I made last September warning people to not buy a truck and get their authority.

It’s slowed a lot but people are still jumping in head first not even know that trucking is in the toilet right now.

It’s likely always been like this. Trucking is feast then famine, feast then famine. The internet probably excelerates it now since information moves so fast but the game is the same. People in this for the long haul have their buckles tightened and are bracing while the weak and unprepared are getting swallowed up as we speak.

Joetro, Rideandrepair and dwells40 Thank this.

The question wasn't about speaking English it was about 3 month experience wanting to buy a truck and becoming an O/O.

So with that. .....Who likes turtles?

I think it's a combination of New drivers not wanting to work for someone and wanting to make big money right off the bat...

it's almost like a new driver is saying, "I wanna make $27 an hr and be home every night, but if I cant do that then I'll just buy my own truck and then nobody will tell me what to do"...

When I first started driving I had to put in 2 years before anyone would even look at me

Do you even know how the immigration process works?it will take years just to bring one family member let alone a few.
Most of the new immigrant drivers i see came from war zones where the us was present, somalia, iraq, syria and god knows who’s next.they’re rufugees granted a special immigration status.
