Hello I got a question that I can’t seem to find an answer to anywhere but am curious about, let’s say I use up my clock and have 1hour of drive time and 2 hours of on duty (including my drive time) and I am done for the day do I keep those hours still even after my clock resets or do they just disappear and the 14 hour I get is just fresh time?….to better explain, 1 hour drive, 2 hour on duty, 20 hours in the 8 day work period, then clock resets, does it then go, 11 drive, 14 on duty, 20 hours still or the same just 18 total hours because the 2 on duty hours I had disappeared

If you are done working for the day and you have...

    1.0 drive
2.0 left on your 14hr clock
20hrs left on your 70hr cycle

As long as you are done working for the day and log sleeper berth or off duty then you get to keep those hours and you will have the 20hrs left on your 70hr cycle instead of 18hrs.

After your 10hr break you will start the next day with...

    11hr drive clock
    14hr on-duty clock
20hrs left on the 70hr cycle

Your 'Recap' is the totals of on duty and driving hours used every day up to 70 hours in the past 8 days.

The 34 hour reset was introduced to shortcut the recap process where enough time off erases your recap and you regain your virginity and a full 70 hours.

This favors the company, not you.

    EZ Recap.

Add the total on duty and driving hours for the past 8 days; hopefully 70 or less hours.

Deduct the oldest day logbook cover calls this your 7 day total.

Subtract the 7 day total from 70 and the answer is your next day available hours.

    Rinse and repeat daily.

You cannot work 14 hours a day every day on a recap [14 X 5 days = 70] and have hours on the 8th day [the next Monday] so there always the need for extra men in the strictly recap days to maintain operations on a regional [union] basis.

With the 34 hour reset you can work 14 hours 5 days a week and reset on the weekend to start again on monday without any extra people...company win.

Recap days working 5 days of 11 hours left a full 15 on Monday...

The 34 hr can also help the driver, it’s not just the company that may benefit. Although everybody’s circumstances are different, when I was a company driver, over the long term I was able to earn more using the 34 hr reset.

It is more stressful and taxing. I like a more relaxed lifestyle.
