Hello all,
I read one of @BigJohn54 posts on getting into trucking and noticed that there was an emphasis on your MVR, criminal and job history. Well, I have a pretty clean MVR (one moving violation) and no criminal record. I do have some gaps in my work history. I left my last two jobs because of conflicts with my schedule at school. I graduated earlier this year but then decided to go get my CDL B, thinking I would have a job in a month or two. Getting the CDL took a few months because of delays. Then I got an offer in June from a local job to drive paratransit, but there was an issue with my documents that needed to be resolved before I could actually start working. I am still actually trying to get that sorted (government offices/services in NYC are a complete joke right now). So I haven't had a real job since late 2019.
Do you guys think that this will be a problem when I apply for training programs?
How much does job history affect getting a into training program?

I had some gaps in my employment history as well.
Sometimes just a simple letter from a family member or friend explaining the gap will get you through. It did for me.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
If you were attending school and trying to work part time, that's not a gap in employment.
You were a student and also trying to work at the same time to get by.
Companies should look favorably on that schedule.Judge, aussiejosh and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
Gaps in employment mean something only to a mega. If you go to a smaller company it’s no big deal. From 2009 until 2019 I had over 40 different jobs with many gaps. I just explained myself it was no big deal.

I agree with Chinatown, put down student in college, no from X date to X date, no gap

You can document what you were doing and that should be all you need. Companies know that the last year+ has been different as far as employment is concerned.

I also think with all the covid stuff that this is even less of an issue and it’s probably the norm right now
A lot of people just plain do not want to work so anyone who is actually pursuing a job has the upper handTheIncredibleBulk Thanks this. -

They can do a nationwide criminal background check if they want to know if you have been in jail. Schneider did that to me back in the day.
