Oh gosh, what a sick sound. I had already done something stupid and got pulled into a sucker hole in a trailer lot (a hole between trailers on the other side) that made me think "Oh, I can pull up further into that gap to get my trailer straighter to back it in on the other side of the lot. Well only problem is once you back into a sucker hole like that you can't turn the wheel or you'll hit a trailer so all you can do is pull in, and back right back out again like a moron. Ok, well once I finally got myself out of that predicament I had a truck behind me that was watching me embarass my company so I just went to the VERY END of the lot to drop my trailer. I'm backing it into a very tight spot and I hear cracking and crunching. My heart sank. I was like #### I did it. I'm done. My trucking career lasted 3 months.
I hop out and go back to the trailer. I'm not even close to anything. What the hell was the crunch noise? I walked around the truck to discover that in cutting the front wheel I had run over an old empty pallet on the ground. I laughed out loud, breathed a huge sign of relief and threw it against their building wall to get it out of the way.
That was a sickening sound.
I heard my first crunch while backing!

Good thing it was a pallet and not a baby playing with puppies and kittens.
Or a bobtail parked way in back of the spot.
Always look in the spot so you don't hit anything.Lumper Humper, D.Tibbitt and Jazz1 Thank this. -
Ehhh. Bumping a trailer is no big deal. It happens way more than we realize. If no one saw it, and nothing is broken, it never happened.
Lumper Humper, D.Tibbitt, okiedokie and 2 others Thank this. -
I ran over the pallet with the front tire, not the rear. It wasn't in the spot I was backing it was just where I swung the front of the truck to get the trailer backed in correctly. And I barely clipped the edge of it but it was enough to crack wood. Someone had put it kinda by another dock ramp but still far enough out where I could easily hit it without hitting anything with the truck itself.Last edited: Sep 5, 2017

I guess if a person is in doubt they don't get out and look to see way is clear anymore.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Hahaha! Got a good laugh out of that when I read the word pallet.
But seriously, it happens. Anyone who says it doesn't is probably lying. Just remember the golden rule: the slower you bump it, the less damage it does. You should see what the day cab drivers in Laredo do! We can actually use one trailer to push another out of the way!D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Don't feel bad this guy heard several crunches when backing up. Lol this guy here looks like a future Swift trainer.
