I'm not saying this is what happened but I saw a driver measuring a over hight load one time when the airbags were deflated. It was preloaded just backed hooked and started measuring I told him air up before measuring.

I was there yesterday in that area. Today in Mooresville, NC seen an educational display on load securement. Looked like a load of tarped lumber maybe, shoved right up in the back of the sleeper….M22 rockcrusher Thanks this. -
Just a bad deal all the way around, to be able to haul a load like that you couldn't have been inexperienced bad communication somewhere hope nobody got hurt.

By once pulling oversized loads I learned,
When using a height pole, have the pilot car driver get into the car, then set the height.
If not, it’s set at load height and you get that 250-300lb dude in there and car squats a bit, lowering the pole, just a bit.
