    This is my observations only.
    55 mph construction speed limit.
Trucks doing 55 are paid hourly.
Trucks doing 70 are paid by the mile.

    65 mph truck speed limit.
Trucks doing 65 are paid hourly.
Trucks doing 70+ are paid by the mile.

I drive the same 500 miles every day I drive. The speed for trucks in Idaho is 70 the speed for trucks in Oregon is 65. Unless I come up on a Mega driver I never have to worry about passing anyone.

What I don't get, is on a 2 lane state highway, the speed limit might be 55. But due to weather conditions, snow, ice, etc, the 4 wheelers are doing 45. I get it, lets all do 45.
But pull into a small town, where the limit drops to 45, and they now decide 35 is safer. 45 was fine 30 seconds ago, but now it's 35.Why is that?

Crab mentality mixed with Braindead. Like the person who tries to prevent you from passing. Braindead recognizes that he/she is in danger of losing control. In the Braindead mind, everyone else is just like them. So to save you and everyone else in the general public, they go slower and prevent people like you, whom they deem to be like them, from harming yourself.

Years ago, there was this female driver on TTR that used to brag about driving 20 mph through single lane construction zones, because she was being safe.

If you ever see a mega doing the speed limit in a construction zone, it’s me. Wave to nredfor.

One of the few exceptions is the 45mph zones in Chicagoland. WTF?

2-3 years ago I was empty (flatbed) coming up us287 between Decatur and Witchita Falls getting close to the speed trap town where it drops from 75 to 45 for a mile shortly before town I passed a loaded Maverick truck, I slow down when the speed drops Maverick doesn’t as he’s beside me he noticed a black suburban sitting at the road on the left (for sale) and slammed his breaks down to slower than me (I got a laugh out of it) as soon as he realized it wasn’t DPS he’s back on the throttle but now the speed limits increasing.

Around the same time frame still empty trailer but westbound on I44 from Okc running 72 or so, a group of cars pass then one fell out of the pack and started slowing down I try to pass they speed up, I get behind them and we do it all over again 3rd time I floored it at 80-85 they backed out I got over in front slowed back down and they stayed behind for the next 30 some miles till I exited.

If your only doing 55 mph and their tailgating you they are obviously not doing 70 mph are they? Otherwise what's to stop them just going around you? But I do agree if their going to follow why not follow at a safe distance the last thing you want is a 76,000 lb tractor trailer only a few yards off your backside, any wonder they have these massive pile ups on the freeways you can bet your bottom dollar they were following to close and going to fast for the conditions.
