I'll be heading to school May-Oct for my CDL at Craven Community College. I live in eastern NC and so far, the 2 companies that have stood out for training directly after school have been Epes (because my husband worked for them a while and they have local accounts that I could potentially get into eventually) which have around 1,600 trucks and EZZELL Trucking which is a fairly local company that hubby was talking to that plans to start their own training program around the time I get my CDL, they have around 70-80 trucks and haul wood chips and such.
I am not overly concerned about what my paycheck will be at the start since we live okay on hubby's, but here is where I need your input:
Where will I get the most experience that I can take with me anywhere? OTR with Epes (or another starter company, open to any recommendations), or with EZZELL, the local company that doesn't really leave the state to my knowledge.
Which will look better on future job applications?
Thanks for your time and superior knowledge.

FFE (Frozen Food Express) has a terminal in Rocky Mount. This company hires from private schools or can attend their cdl school. For students that are not Texas residents, the school is in Burns Harbor, Indiana. Transportation, meals, lodging provided.
Can run solo or team. Teams on the "Plasma" account can make $80K - $90K+
for each driver on the team. Either way, solo or team, it's a good company.

OP where do you want to be in 5 years? What type of trucking are you interested in doing?

    OTR? Regional? Local?

And then what sector: LTL, tanker, dry van, reefer, flatbed, hotshot?

I ask because at least for LTL, if you want to do that then you might not even have to go OTR. You could just do a dock to driver program and I think some of them might hire fresh out of CDL school.
