Insight needed from experienced drivers.

JBS Carriers has a training program for new cdl school students.
It's a reefer outfit, but does have a cattle hauling division & feed hauling division. If a driver does well pulling reefers, can ask to be cross trained to haul cattle or feed.

• Must be at least 21 years old
• Valid Class-A CDL with 1 year of 53' tractor trailer experience.
• Mentor programs are available for drivers with less than a year of experience.

 

yea don’t let tanker scare you ... but it’s not the rolling over a tank or a accident... i mean you only rollover from going to fast which you should know better and can control.. it’s the uncontrollable with gas in just how stupid these people are at gas stations... I swear they never see the gigantic truck taking up 90% of the station and you have to be not nice

 

There's also food grade tanker.... not sure if there's any with terminals out that way though....

 

Most companies like to see one year OTR.
A year goes by fast and you will have a better idea of what works for you.
Go slow and GOAL.

 

Epes seems to be good. I remember a guy that stayed in Morristown, TN. He had been there for a good minute. He made some pretty steady money there, and he didn't stay out longer than a couple of weeks. They got it going on there. Easy running lanes for the most part and regular hometime. For a starter OTR company, that seems to be a good place.

 

Want to be the best driver you can be?

Try maneuvering on NYC streets, throughout New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania. This is THE tuffest area in the country in which to drive a tractor trailer.

It takes time and practice. But, consistently make the effort, and you'll get there.

 

You also need to learn how to drive and honk the horn at the same time.

 

I always thought it was drive w one hand while working the finger with the other..
Was told back when I started out by some grizzled old guy that in Chicago you give one signal blink then move over, and on the east coast ya just move over because they should know you needed to get over.

I thought I was supposed to learn the proper technique of driving while honking to get the attention, and then using appropriate hand signals to indicate my displeasure... all while keeping my eyes on the road and my speed appropriate for conditions? Lol
