Is getting a passport mandatory or optional

Most companies don't force Canada.
If you have a criminal record; even for something minor, you can't go to Canada. Even a DUI and you can't cross the border.

 

Don't know if you caught my thread on my most recent (and last) trip to Canada but I cut up my fastcard just so they can't beg me to go up there.

In answer to your question. It being mandatory or not is purely up to the carrier and their policy.

A passport isn't required, nor is needed unless you go there. As mentioned if you have a felony on your record, you can't. AND they consider a DWI/DUI a felony.

The problem isn't getting into Canada, it is getting back into the states. For some odd reason they scrutinize US citizens more than they do any other foreign national at the US border.

By the way, don't tell the company you have one unless they bring it up.

 

Canada has no problems letting Italian Mafia immigrate to Canada. There's 100's of them living in Canada. Thousands of illegal Chinese and many with criminal records and wanted in China. They also have no problem letting high risk Muslims immigrate to there. Chinese criminals love Canada because they're protected there. Chinese criminal gang members go to Canada to extort money from Chinese people that embezzled millions or hundreds of millions of dollars from companies in China then fled to Canada where they're protected.
America is no better. America condones the oriental massage parlors that are filled with illegal Chinese women. Those women can't produce a passport or any type of legal work permit.

 

Many can't enter Canada.As long as you don't get a passport I wouldn't worry about it.I don't think any of the starter companies require it.

 

Not require to get your cdl, but some companies might require it if they go into Canada

 

Perhaps the Chinese people who are victims of extortion should go to the police station to both report the crime and file charges against the Chinese extortionists. This way the victims of the extortionists will be protected from the extortionists, both now and in the future.
