I made a fake king pin out of pvc pipe with a cap on the end. Drilled a hole in the end cap for a bolt to go thru and bolted the thing to the landing gear flanges. The lock is always there on the trailer.

I hold mine with grocery bags when I put it on, but never thought about putting the bags on the kingpin itself. That's what I will be doing from now on. Thanks alot for the tip.

If you cover the king pin first with a plastic bag the chances of getting greased are narrowed down to one not checking for wholes in the bag. It keeps the king pun lock clean.. I keep mine in the box it came in under the bunk.. it's not greased up..

I take an old pair of jeans and cut off a chunk of the leg. Stitch one end shut with heavy nylon thread to make a denim bag; enough slack at the top to roll over and make a handle. Same thing to store a grease gun, except you use a longer chunk of the leg. They last a couple years 'til they get good and grubby and then you make a new one.

Another option is to dump out the windshield squeegee water bucket and fill it with diesel while you are filling your truck. Drop in kingpin lock and slosh around then use windshield squeegee to scrub off the grease. Leave squeegee and bucket full of greasy diesel there for the next driver who may need to clean his kingpin lock lol.
