We spent 8 years, going into Rialto twice a week.
I'd spit rusty tacks if they sent us to LA, Long Beach or Orange.
There seems to be a very small window in a 24 hour cycle where it is not complete mayhem.
And then night construction can blow that outta the water.
All replies would be well heeded.
L.A rush hour traffic

I ate about an extra 1.5 hours on the Riverside freeway yesterday. One crash. Then another. Then another. That's what makes it so bad. It's very dangerous for big trucks as well, cause people just don't care. Leave after 9. If you leave at 6, you'll be right in the teeth of it hating life.
I'm going north tomorrow. I'll leave here at 0400, fuel, get to Coachella probably 0830 or so. Take my 30, maybe a tad more, leave Coachella 0915 to 0930, that puts me in San Bernadino about 1030 and its kind of a gap between rush hours. Get on the other side of the hills, then I'm gone.
You hit any of those freeways 5, 10, 210, 91, 60, 22, at the wrong time, and it's your own doing, you can easily burn an extra 2 hours and whack your fuel mileage.
If your delivery is at like 0600 to 0800, you gotta get in the night before, and park at the receiver or hide some place.fargonaz, bentstrider83, Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this. -
I personally avoid La at all costs unless going in at 0300 and leaving after 0930 and then have short window yo get out if not out by 1330 you gonna be stuck in traffic'!

9 p.m. to 4 a.m. is the best time for light traffic..
And try to route around construction if you can.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
From East LA to San Francisco
if you are close to I-15 freeway take it north to us395 north, Then ca18 west to ca138 west. then ca14 north then again ca138 west to I-5. This route is 30 miles more but in rush hour you will save 1.5-2.5 hours .RustyChops41, fargonaz and truckthatpassesyouby Thank this. -
Sorry guys . 1st dropped in San Frisco. Now got a broker load to commerce/east l.A. then imma dh to San Diego for my border load back to Ohio lol. Thanks for all the help. I left bout 530 from Bakersfield. Sitting on the 101 in traffic currently
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
you should get out from Bakersfield 3.30-4.00 am not 5.30 .

Too bad you didn't have a better window then that.I would say you wanna get thru LA earlier then 6 am.

Might as well just station wreckers, ambulances and fire-trucks permanently along the freeway. Haven't lived, nor drove a truck through any part of CA in five years. I've still got friends and such that live in CA still boasting about how it's somehow the "greatest place in world". Apparently, all those noxious fumes from sitting forever on the freeway have permanently corrupted their train of thought.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

To me, it seems late afternoon traffic is worse and lasts longer than morning traffic. I can think of more than a few time leaving the Lebec area headed for 08:00 appointments in the LA/Vernon area and north LA traffic in the 07:00 time frame was not near as bad as was expected, but other areas are bad. It all depends on your start point and end point and time targets.
Best advice for those not accustomed to LA traffic is to check Google maps traffic on various days at various times to get a sense of what areas get bad and when. Of course any one incident can make a good situation, bad, but there is no accounting for the unusual crash or construction issue.Lepton1 Thanks this.
