So I have a question. I've been on the phone with Schneider and they are willing to sponsor my schooling and afterwards they will send me to tanker training for their "jet set" program which I know will suck but to get tanker training I'm willing to suck it up for a year. However they want me to go to a school in Hazelwood, Missouri that only teaches on automatics? I don't want to short change myself for any future work by not knowing how to shift/double clutch etc?
Am I making a mistake or should I just accept that automatics are the future and not worry about it?
Learning on Automatic, will this short change my possibilities?

You’re making a mistake. You will be stuck with the megas. And they know this.

What he said ^.
The really good NON ADVERTISED jobs with small outfits where you know the owner don’t buy automatics. Don’t short change yourself and don’t get trapped into a contract with one of the crap megas just to get trained.Brettj3876, TripleSix and JrzyDave Thank this. -
Yea.....I've been reading this forum long enough to know better. I'm going to decline. I have a SAGE school 20 minutes from me. I'll pay it myself one way or the other.

I'm of the mindset of do it once and be done with it. You may never run a manual but at least you're ready to go if the opportunity arises.

. I am now driving a 2021 with the DT12. I have no interest in going back to the stick it has won me over. Truth be told it will be the future. For me it is a better ride need I say in "stop & go". If Schneider is going to pay you a "competitive wage" to gain experience being trained in the tanker industry I would go for it but that's might take. A year goes very quickly when you enjoy what you're doing. All the best as you going marching on down the trucking lane

I will definitely keep that in mind. I'm currently in Florida though but I do have family in Jersey if needed
