Hi all, thought i would do similar here as i did in the tanker section. Though a bit differently and put in here what i liked/disliked when I was hauling reefers.
Liked:
The routes, Californias not high on most peoples list of places to haul to but WOW the scenery is AWESOME. Mountains, coastline, big cities! Lots of different views! Gotta say i LOVED the sierra nevada in winter...Like a christmas fairytale scene!
The schedules; Hard and fast and hurry up and get there! but a big challenge and good feeling when your making the timetable.
The reefer trailer: sounds strange but it gives you one more thing to keep busy with and keep on your toes about.
Dislikes:
One word....... LAREDO !!!
The waiting times, not so much for having to wait but that it could make it hard to figure out HOS to stay legal and get were you gotta go on time.
The hassels of multiple picks and keeping the axle weights legal, eg loading at multiple packing sheds with different products like broccoli and then spinach then cauliflower etc . makes it hard to get an evenly distibuted load weight wise.
Being overweight and allready a long way from the shipper, not allways a scale close by and that can realy throw a spanner in the works.
Thats just a fraction of the job but its an insight for the newbies looking at this type of haulage. Hope it helps.
My reefer experiences.

Im a reefer hauler. Luckily I dont do multiple stops.
Is this a brand new forum? I dont think it was here yesterday??jerryy123 Thanks this. -
I did mostly multiple picks at packing sheds in california, when i loaded in AZ or TX it was allways FTLs at consolidation sheds.
Yep, new forum !JERRYY Thanks this. -
Yeah, good stuff. For years I did the produce market thing every night. Oakland, South San Francisco, Sacramento and back home to Ukiah. Anywhere from 12 to 20 pick-ups. I had to load my own truck. --I would have never made it if I had to wait on others to load me.
For a while I was delivering cheese cakes on the way down to the produce markets. I would hit several Carrow's and Red Lobster restaurants. It was always good for some laughs to watch peoples expressions when I'd pull a 48 footer (with refeer screaming) into those tiny parking lots and block in all the customers while I would carry one box of cakes into the restaurant. --1 box!! LoL.
Seasonally I would take pears down to the Port of Long Beach and bring banana's back to Sacramento. Nothin kept me awake like rolling through the tule fog on hwy 99 at 65mph all night. --any slower and someone would roll over the top of you...kw9's rock and JERRYY Thank this. -
I'm guessing you didn't work for the right company doing LTL reefer. I do LTL reefer every day of the week and love the job...but love the settlements that hit my bank account every Friday even more.JERRYY, alex94 and kw9's rock Thank this.

KW9Rock I pull reefers and rarely have multi p/u's and deliverys and I live in Calif. I expect to do a 34 in Laredo. El Paso is pretty much the same. I also inspect the trailer really well for damage and other things.

JERRYY Thanks this. -
Not too sure were your going with this?
My usual run was a FTL meat delivery in San Jose( Mohawk Packing) then a run down to the "Garlic Farm" for a washout , then down to Salinas and Marina to run around picking up pallets from different places. Was rare to get a FTL in one pick.
Laredo was a FTL drop of meat at TMR Forwarding , or a couple of different places out on Mines Road. Then turn and burn over to Galveston for a FTL of bananas at Del Monte bound for Regina or Calgary, Canada.JERRYY Thanks this. -
I am a company driver for Central and on a dedicated fleet. I haul Kraft products from manufacturer to D/C, D/C to D/C and on occasion to places like Walmart's D/C.. Rarely do I do multiple drops or pick-ups. Many of my loads are in the 6-700 mile range. Though I do loads over a 1k. 95% of my loads are drop and hook. Only once did I handle the freight and then it was just the top two layers of one pallet. Rarely do I get to far west of the Mississippi.
Most times I am preset for my next load before I get to my drop.kw9's rock and JERRYY Thank this. -
Work for a company that hauls meat out of Omaha, usually 1 drop but can be more, depending on where your going. Broker loads to get back. All the broker loads, seem to load at night and deliever in the am. Almost forgetting what the sun looks like. lol
kw9's rock and JERRYY Thank this. -
Oh yea, we're an out and back company and usually get between 29 and 3200 miles a week.
