I went with KLLM fresh out of school. They have tuition reimbursement up to 5k I think, but the nice thing is they pay you a bit on your checks and at the end of your first year you get the remainder payed to you. pay seems in line with the industry, but if you guys are thinking about doing a lease purchase later down the road they have a good program. I was bring in 1,100 most weeks as an average after fuel but I would go home for three or four days every other weekend. That is as a lease purchase on the north regional and after fuel, tractor, and all of those kind of deduction. the insurance they offer to lease purchase is pathetic, my wife found a plan with blue cross blue shield as an indepedant but is costly. Good luck, and from what I have seen avoid CR England at all cost.

What I dont understand is why so many people get in the mind set that they have to run otr right out of driving school I think its a false thought that no local companys will hire you with little experience I know a lot of drivers that in there whole life have never slept a night in a truck there is a lot of foodservice, less than load, gravel, flatbed companys that pay better than the otr stuff with benifits keep in mind there is a major driver shortage out there and dont just settle for the pay you poverty wage otr mega carriers just because you lack experience have a job and a life its nice being home every night
blairandgretchen, HotH2o, Nightwind8830 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am doing otr out of school because I want to, not cause I have to.

Well if you want that lifestyle more power to ya. I'm just saying some people are looking for home time and all these things and the reality with the carriers listed well its not a reality since they have a hard time retaining drivers they are going to keep you out there running loads as long as possible and plan on doing your 34 hour reset at a truck stop not at home. I guess they way you look at it this is my opinion and it is your job to do your reseach to find the right fit for you
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
But if you think it is all freedom and sight seeing you have another thing coming
Joetro Thanks this. -
We don't mind OTR since I can go with him, but in reality we would really like something that DOES offer more home time. We're not asking for much, just no flatbeds with a decent pay and healthcare benefits. We went directly to OTR because a LOT of people told us you can't make anything worth anything unless you do that. He's not necessarily asking for local, home everyday, in the beginning, but maybe regional, home every week.
This has become so overwhelming because we hear so many stories from every direction. His background is in construction and he used to drive as a delivery person, but wants a no touch now. He isn't against tandem dump trucks, since he is familiar with them. -
All the research I've done on companies CRETE has the highest starting pay $500 per week for the training period and .34 cpm for the first year after that. However if your husband is just coming out of school like I did he will have to do the first 8 weeks OTR with a trainer in which he will be doing all the driving, the trainer is just there to help out if he gets into a situation he can't handle.
As far as I know they also have a free no fee rider policy too, just fill out the paperwork and go.Dreazz75 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
