    Well, I'll tll ya.

Last year I bought a truck and signed on with LS, and bought a brand new 53' flat. At that stage, early '15, rates on flat were great.

Now on the load board I see van rates better, and more plentiful in my area than flat - swing a couple of doors - much easier than tarping crud in 25 degree weather.

But - 65% on a tractor with their trailer, or 73% with my tractor and own trailer.

So - in my position, I bought a trailer, and sealed my fate for the last 12 months - I looked at the $4000 odd I spent on a headache rack and securements (at the time it was a HUGE outlay), as an investment - easily paid off within the year.

Those chains and rack can come off the truck and I can buy a van later, hook and go if I want to, which I may do WHEN, and ONLY WHEN I've paid the flat off (hopefully this year).

More options for changing times, rates, weather.

    Am I making any sense? I feel light headed all of a sudden . . . .

Do you carry anything on your flat in boxes? Place I run for has everything on the trailer and it stays on that trailer.

What part of the county side are you from?
What kind of rig did you get?

The start of this next week I'm going to call menards and see what kind of a bs rate they will give also was going to call a couple brokers and see what they have for freight on a regular basis around my areas.
Regardless I have some things on my end I need to sell before I can but... or would like to sell, I want everything paid with cash and not have loan payments that way if things are tough going I know a guy I can work for not driving my truck and not have to making enough for payments on a truck and all that...

If you become an O/O, all you are doing is buying yourself a job. Perhaps it will be a good job, perhaps not. Maybe the boss ( you ) will fire you, maybe give you a raise. One thing will be guaranteed, you will work harder.

Yeah, I talked with an older feller at a pick up the other day and he gave me a few tips for items to haul round here. Also said if I was gonna buy a truck not to spend all my cash on it so I had money for bills and thatsometimes it takes a while for you to get paid so save money up.
