Well for our location it's otr, but if you're in the right area they do have regional/ home daily positions. Florida isn't one of them.
Stick with flat bedding if you want weekends such as TMC, Cypress, McElroy. Had a buddy of mine do the Dollar General accounts with Werner and home weekends.
If don't mind some physical work, you can do food distributions and home daily, good money in our area for that. sysco and us foods are the best paying. Beverage distributions as well but not as good $$ wise.
My buddy working at Werner bragged about his home/ money compared to what I was doing until I showed him paychecks then he quickly realized busting his butt doing physical work in 100+degree dry box making less than me was very demotivating. Sure he was home on the weekends Saturday late afternoon but had to be right back at the terminal Sunday night ready to run literally just enough for a 34hr reset. Also, while he was only there a totally of 8 month he put his trailer in the ditch 3 times due to lack of experience and how messed up some of these dollar general stores are setup. Werner knew they had him shackled because now no other company would take him for those preventable accidents. So really be careful if you do those types of accounts
You can do Service Transportation, they have a terminal in Creola,AL. They'll take students, one of my buddy's is over there right now. He's out 3-4 days and home 3-4 days yanking tanks. Those work days aren't really set in stone very sporadic. It's customer based at that terminal. Might run 7 days, might run 2-3 days out just depends.
Okay. I finallypulled the trigger

Oh almost forgot, you can apply at Trimac they are in Pensacola.
MericanMade Thanks this. -
I'll have to contact Service Transport, too.
Thanks!Eggroll'n Trucker Thanks this. -
As long as you know what you're getting into and know it's something temporary to prop you up to something better, it won't seem so bad loldwells40 Thanks this. -
I just got off the phone with CMI Trucking. Here's the deal with them: They will hire "new" drivers if you live in their hiring area, which excluded Florida. "New" to them means you already have a year of flatbed AND a year of heavy haul. They'll still train you on how they do it for the DOD. If you have 3+ years heavy haul experience, they'll hire you even if you're outside their "new" hiring area.
These are the big dawgs. -
LOL! I called Liquid Transport Corp. because they are also in Creola, AL. When I asked for recruiting, the lady sighed heavily and asked if I had chemical experience. I replied that I was going to ask if you hired new drivers, but I heard that sigh and will take that for a 'no.'
So just so everyone knows, you need prior chemical experience to drive for Liquid Transport Corp.
SVTN is a possibility. I got a yes and no, and she told me to call her toward the end of January. Things are just slow with practically everyone now. -
May, the company, does suck. They couldn’t give 2 squats less about their drivers. One look at the driver facilities at their terminals will confirm their lack of concern regarding driver happiness.
But again, Pensacola kind of does their own thing. They’ll definitely take care of you the best they can if you do a good job. That said, there is one dispatcher there that you’ll want to avoid like the plague should you go there. She’s as worthless as they come. LolLonesome and Eggroll'n Trucker Thank this. -
Yeah, all reviews, whether on yelp, indeed, glassdoor, or on this here Truckers’ Forum are all baloney.
Everything... including yours, mine, and ours.
So, go form your own conclusions without any contact from any drivers.
Best way to do this would be to get a crystal ball from Madame’ Doussoud’s metaphysical shop, set it up in your dining room (or any other favorite, private space), place both your hands upon it and then ask for it’s advice.
