Hey guys I need some advice. I’ve been driving for 6 years now. I was otr/regional for a year and have been local food service for the last 5 years. I make a very good living running food service but I miss otr. I have now for a few years. The problem is I’m married with 3 kids. My wife stays at home with the kids while I run up and down a ramp all day long. She hated when I was otr because I was gone for 2+ weeks at a time but I miss being out on the road. I’ve had 2 bad knee injuries doing food service and i have to eat ibuprofen like candy because the job wears on you. Am I crazy for wanting to go back out on the road? Stay local or try to convince the wife?

You can't provide for your family if you ruin your health.

Use it, you won't regret it. Most tanker work pays well and is very easy. Hazmat tanker pays even better and is mostly easy, only difference is PPE and some 4 bolt flange hoses. Hook up the air line, open the valve, close the valve and drive away

I forgot to mention most tank loads don't usually go across the country, so you can run longer loads and still get home a few times a week. I run PA to KY, NJ, NY, WV...by the time I get back the next day I don't have enough time left to do anything else so I get to go home and start the next morning. I'm home about 2-3 nights a week and still get 2-3,000 miles in

Chinatown knows a bunch, it depends where you're located. I've heard good things about Superior Carriers but they were bought out just recently by Heniff so I'm not sure about how they are now. I know a lot of companies, but I have no insight on how they operate or what they pay. Schneider, Prime, Heniff, Highway Transport, Ergon, Quality Carriers, Foodliner, there's a ton. Indeed.com usually brings up a lot of results if you just search "tanker driver" in whatever area you're in
