    They turn down the trucks for fuel savings. When you have 13,000 trucks running if you can save even .0001 mpg on them that adds up to a lot of cash in a years time.

    I try to keep mine down.90% of the time my runs are easily doable at 60mph. But the 10% that aren't.......whoa. But I honestly dont care. They're not paying me enough to. If youre going to have your drivers limited in speed then pay them more than the trucks that are passing them.
    My DBL has brought my overspend once. I told him that Im going to use the tool available to me to get my loads there on time and he never brought it up again. I

    I still look at is as being cheap. I forgot too mention that we can do 70 going down a grade. But if you think about it. Your still using the same amount of fuel as you would on flatland due too higher rpms. Plus what really got me was i was told by a safety director too just use 9th gear as my top. We have 10 speeds. I would argue that i would burn more fuel with that kind of high rpms running at least 55mph at 16000 rpms. Plus being a hazard and wearing down the engine more. However i shut my mouth because i know im not staying long with these people.

    Your clearly don’t understand fuel consumption at all then.

    You could go 70 on a downgrade with the truck shut off completely, would it still be using the same about of fuel as on a flatland then?

    You are depressing the accelerator far less (if at all) on a downhill then on flatland and that is what will determine how much fuel is used, not the engine RMP or speed of the trck. Saying you would use the same amount of fuel on a downhill as on flatland at a given speed/RMP is the equivalent of saying you would use no more fuel on an uphill as on flatland at the same speed/RMP. Clearly that is not true.

    It is that kind of lack of understanding that has companies governing their trucks in the first place. Let’s wait and see what decisions you make when you have your own truck and have to pay for the fuel yourself.

    I think you just wasted your energy, even though you are absolutely right, you still wasted your effort. When I read that reply I just shook my head and moved on.

    well for the time being, you can take comfort in knowing that you'll never have to endure a 20 minute, 65 mph drag race between paschall and PAM, or averitt and ozark, etc, etc

    That's easy, I just stopped running uphill completely.

    Of course, now I'm in New Orleans with no place to go... :biggrin_2559:

    Hear me out when i say this. I LIKE this industry but it doesnt mean that i LOVE it. Essientially meaning i would not buy my own truck no time soon. Certainly not in the position too where i would stay in this industry forever.
