From what I understand, PAM can help you get in the door (CDL School in Indianapolis, IN) but after a year OTR, it is best to switch elsewhere. Why? Because "dispatch is a bunch of #######"...I'm assuming each company will have its flaws, but dispatch seems to be a real problem with this company...Basically, you can be forced to take a 34 hour break BEFORE youre even due for a 34 hour break! ... Dispatch is a bunch of monkeys doing what theyre told? Wanted to share...Pay isnt phenomenal nor are the benefits...Keep looking...
PAM...Avoid?

You will need to be very careful around Pam. I was operating a fueling station once that allows big rigs on down to get a dallop of fuel in the back. But they had to pull in a certain way and go out eastbound.
PAM showed up. failed to turn right at the light on my corner to access back lot fuel. He sticks the tractor into the car turnback ramp entrance onto my property where trucks don't exactly fit. His trailer ripped up curbing, sunk two feet into the grass, trenched it and topped shrubs and one tree.
I pulled him in and had the law coming to document this damage as he tearfully explained to me that he was just two weeks out of school and not very skilled at the wheel just yet. I explained to him that I am also a driver with a small number of years and frankly I am shamed that he showed such display of non thinking about how to get back there and took a moment to show him. Point Point and point. He was in his 60's I did not abuse him but showed a little respect. Law showed up and took the inforrmation, make a report addressed to the owner who will soon be very interested in the damage, unit number etc.
Fast to another question, Ive wondered how in the world he expected to pay 240 gallons (Older non computer truck) without a comdata? Maybe it was good he never fueled there being surrounded at the time by approximately 12 truckstops where you could get into a place and get fuel in those days. (Only 4 remain. Elkton, Jessup and Baltimore Plaza)
When I moved to Arkansas I learned a little more about PAM and a couple of other carriers and they did not get cast in a very good light. I am not here to pick on PAM or any carrier at all. Whatever happened then was water under bridge.
Now.
Dispatchers.
They can be tamed. You just need to know where you are on the weekly 70, daily 14 and 11 plus how much early or late you are running against that appointment time. Plus the 8 day recap and your pending reset. You know not to get loads where you cannot do it right all your HOS. (Better to load and deliver than to load and repower (Give away) that load.
Dispatchers require a certain amount of ego servicing. I hate to say it, but if you praise them on the precision (Never mind the details... best forgotten) they puff up like a happy bird knee deep in a pile of birdseed. Keep that up now and then and next thing you know you have plum runs.
Any time they bark Truck Number on that phone, you bark back home address? That will set em straight, you are a person with a name. Not just a number. And that goes for everyone. No wonder dispatch gets abusive sometimes.
One word in English.
N.O. And you better mean no mean no and back it up with facts. Never emotion. Never give in. No matter how much they threaten (Document it) yell, scream and maybe even cry. As long they understand yes is yes and no is no with you there is not a problem.
There will be one day a year you will be up to here with dispatcher, Bossman, shop monkey, tire boy or whatever. Put the qualcomm down and get out of that truck near a forest. Tell it to the trees. Get it out of your system. And then you will be fine.TexasKGB, meechyaboy, QuietStorm and 3 others Thank this. -
PAM is a joke . Dispatch is not more than a circus . After calling in for 4 days sitting in Laredo TX in the summer .. I called it quits . My wife got her CDL through them , after graduation they changed all the qualifying rules for her .
Miles there are lousy too ... met a lease driver that stayed out 6 months just to be able to home with a little bit of money.
PAM is worse than the rest of the bottom feeder slave mills .plankton, Aamcotrans and jamespmack Thank this. -
Penny A Mile
plankton, Aamcotrans, Texas_hwy_287 and 4 others Thank this. -
Pam just lost another lawsuit I heard. Prime also on a losing streak of lawsuits 8-0.
plankton, jamespmack, Whiteline64 and 1 other person Thank this. -
" Pam Practices go against the fair labor standards act "
1-29jamespmack Thanks this. -
If your husband doesn't mind earning his money have him try flatbed. Maverick and TMC both have dedicated boat divisions out of Elkhart. Make way way more than at PAM.
jamespmack Thanks this. -
So, I’m gathering PAM might good for drivers that are into that sadist, B&M (?), deviant behavior?
jamespmack, Broke Down 69, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this.
