I have 4 "preventable accidents" now on my DAC. (all were in yards and all involved trailers and were more incidents then accidents. 2 of which are BS and I will appeal). I now have been turned down by the first 3 big companies I have applied to as a result of these. My main question is if I went to a lease program are these things still checked before employment? Thanks

I think you should question why you are damaging property instead of what seems to me as though you are running from problems that sorry to say,.. will just follow you to where ever you go. Address the 'incidents' first. Work on preventing preventables from happening in the first place.
Once you have accomplished that, I think you will be happier and in a better position to pick and choose where you want to work.

I love this thread already!
I hit stuff but not badly. No one will hire me now. Should I become an owner operator and lease a truck?

everything is "checked"
you'll have as much chance of leasing, as you do in getting hired. unless they hit you up with some sort of surety bond, which if they do, you won't be able to afford it.
you deny the accidents and instead refer to them as incidents, but i beg to differ. your company calls them accidents. good luck in trying to appeal such remarks from your DAC.
maybe you ought to go back to school for some much needed retraining, seems to me, you need it.pattyj Thanks this. -
All were only in yards, and only trailers??!?
Pfft. Those don't even count! Heck yeah, I say.....Lease Op is definitely the way to go!
BTW.....Um, just curious. How long you been driving?pattyj, snowlauncher, bad attitude 75 and 1 other person Thank this. -
They were not accidents or incidents. They were collisions. You have multiple collisions on your record.

It is classified however the company wants to classify it. So it's preventable accidents not matter what. Just curious since it was on private property was the police called?

Come join those of us hauling rail containers! In rail yards if you arent occasionally hitting other containers you arent doing your job correctly. Remember: What happens in the rail yard STAYS in the rail yard!
demi, strollinruss and G.Anthony Thank this. -
Word games aside, damage was done. Becoming an owner operator will not change what has happened. They will run the same checks either way because the company still has their fanny hanging out should you hit something again. Lawyer: You contracted with this guy knowing he had a history of damaging property therefore you are liable.
Don't take this the wrong way as it isn't meant to be mean. That is just the way they see it. You can keep trying though. Ya never know what might be around the next corner. But I would strongly advise you look into why it happened and do everything to correct it. You will really be up a creek if somebody gives you a second chance and it happens again.
As for the lease idea. No.
