I had a filling come out in Kentucky, 800 miles from home. After the 1st day the pain was getting pretty bad and I couldn't eat comfortably. Luckly my next load was heading in the general direction of the house and I could be home in 2 days.
I told my F/M I had to go to the doctor and could I get a load into the NE. She said she could set me up with a relay headed to NJ on Friday morning. Friday morning I pick up the load and wait for the relay. He's due in 7 hours. Pop a bottle of asprin and wish I was allowed to numb the pain with vodka.
5 pm the relay driver is delayed and will not arrive untill 4am. No problem, I call the dentist, make an appointment for Saturday and go to sleep. 8pm I'm woken up and told I have to make the run for the relay driver (up to syracuse) but I have a load coming down to long island set up. Fine.
I deliver to Syracuse, I have 6 hours to get to the dentist (in NYC), I go to the p/u and,,,,
IT'S NOT EVEN SCHEDUALED UNTILL TWO PM!?!?!?
I tell weekend dispatch I can't do it,,, I HAVE to go to the doctor. I already made the appointment and I can't reschedual for two days. Plus I've already been in pain for three days. The next stop is the ER, seriously.
They tell me "they can't ALLOW me to go to the doctor."
My Qualcom back? "Let me get this straight, you are going to deny me access to medical treatment?"
I went to the doctor. If they tow the truck at least I'm closer to home.
(BTW: If they hadn't LIED to me and said I couldn't go home I would have found a dentist IN-NETWORK closer to me, but they led me to believe that I would be able to go to the dentist who already has my history.)
P.S. My face is full of blood right now because I had to have an extraction and I'm hopped up on drugs that prevent me from "opperating heavy machinery"
Probably fired by now

Sounds par for the course with most companies nowdays, they dont give a crap about drivers or thier health just as long as the stinking freight gets delivered how they want it. sucks to have to work for outfits like that.
-
I'm glad you got to the dentist before it got any worse. Your health is worth more than any job. Hopefully it will all work out for you.
-
I wouldn't say your fired.... Your seek & needed medical attention. From what I read, they were trying to deny you that medical attention so they can line their pockets with that green paper that really doesn't have much value.
You did exactly what I would have done... I'm sure other driver's would have done the same thing as well. I've delayed loads, pick-up, everything because I was sick. -
Welcome to trucking reality.
I personally know a woman who lost a lung over #### like this.
Another who is now dead, using company "authorized" treatment for work related injuries. The lawsuit is still ongoing, last I heard.
Another (male) who was left stranded 1000 miles from home, after a week in the hospital, work related injury. Company picked up the truck, while he was there. Then refused to make arrangements for his travel. Or even confirm his personal items had been removed/cared for.
These stories go on forever. -
I think the big question is,,, do I trust them enough to go back to work?
Will they let me do my job?
Or will they dick me around, run me to a spot 600 miles from home, make me sit for a week, then route me though Van Buren to fire me? (and stick me with a 26 hour bus ride home) -
Must be USA TRUCK.

Dude, it's way past time to leave that company! Dont let them trash your DAC report, quit before they fire you!
-
Doesn't mean they still won't trash the DAC

Document EVERYHTHING!. Take pics of the Qualcom screen(digital AND get one of those JJ Keller disposable cameras) Have the dentist you went to write up a note. ect ect ect.
If your company says ANYTHING about what you did, tell them what you have, and then tell the company the next contact you will have with them will be from your attorney. (always be calm and nice... be a pro)The Challenger and simplyred1962 Thank this.
