I'm going to tell this one in 3rd person, so you can tell me exactly what you think. This is not my load.

Hi - My name is BOB and I'm a BCO with LS. I booked a load late on Friday, from one of those 'out of the country' agents that gets loads off the DAT board. The load pays $35,000 all in.

I pick it up on Monday, need to deliver it Friday, because I have an important appointment on the following Monday.

How much money will I be left with, to the truck, after escorts, permits and LS cut (25%).

$35k minus permits and escorts, and then minus 25% to LS, is what my truck will get.

    Load details -

    Spokane, WA to Houston,TX.

    Overall length 82'
    Overall width 16'6"
Overall loaded height 15'4". (LS policy mandates I have a pole car the whole way, regardless of state requirements).

    Loaded weight - 110,000 lbs on 7 axles (4 tractor, 3 trailer).

Wyoming is a no go due to width restrictions.

I'm not familiar with some of these states and their route survey requirements.

Is this for real? How do you jump on a load without knowing your costs or at the very least a rough estimate. So someone booked the load and is asking around to see how much he's going to profit from it. I don't have any idea of the costs involved with this , but I don't see it ending well.

I understand that it's not his load. But is it someone's load or is this something made up.
If I made it sound like I was talking about him I didn't mean it that way.

the clear answer is nothing or nearly all of it.

a seven axle can’t scale 110k in any state - certainly not out west. So - one need not buy permits as they are all B S at that point.

if you are willing to bootleg at 160k gross - you are wiling to run with out a pole car (if you ain’t scared of the states then why would you be scared of Landstar).

So at 16’ 6 “ wide - you might run a pilot car just to make it look good…. , figure maybe $1.85/mile maybe less because any decent pilot would never run this crap show - no route or permits.

lasttly - when the equipment breaks and you are stuck the the. Rand Billy and tow bulls will take all the money in any case

The agent should know better, and that $35k all-in price is totally retarded and show be twice and a half more

You certainly did. This guy is an esteemed member of this forum and has been for a very long time. He knows his stuff. I am a lowly company driver and I have learned plenty about the O/O side of this business.

that will not even cover the 2 pilots ….

any decent set would f pilot cars is gonna be north of $2/mile plus

short miles are almost 2200 - then figure at least 25% more miles for size

that is gonna be 2600 miles minimum

so pilots alone are going to be north of $10k probably around $12k

not including permits or the potential for police escort or fuel or time or the cost of the specialized equipment need to do this - probably 10-12 axle - maybe a 9 axle step stretch maybe not

Yes - for real. BOB is a real nice guy, but I thought he was stupid for taking it.

Thanks for the flowers, but I’m limited in my experience to 5-6 axle legal weight, and not a lot of height. I knew there would be a few sharper pencils here.
