I know noone is willing to answer to this question but since brokers are ###### us up big time and companies that we lease our trucks to not that much different than brokers, im thinking we should come up with a solution to this bull####, im really tired of people screwing me for my hardwork. Personally im really fed up with rates lately im getting. Fuel, maintance and everything else is getting more expensive but rates are still dropping. I used to get nothing less than $2.5 unless i wanted to go home or such but since last 1.5 month i have been getting nothing more than $2 per mile usually between from $1.3 to $2 depends on where im at and its very hard to find loads lately. Im not even mentioning getting deduction! I hate to ask this question but are you guys doing same as i am or just am i getting ###### just because my company works alot tql brokers? I know working with brokers is not recommended and dealing directly with shippers is the way to go but not all of us can do that so ...
Rates???

Well,Your going to have to do that.
There are no alternatives, If its too much work securing your own customers...Then Go join the Union and Retire there. And I'm not being a [email protected] being Honest with you.
The only way your going to live Well and comfy is those 2 choices only.
leasing your truck on to a carrier is just not smart... And Working exclusively for Brokers is a Suicide mission.brian991219, MJ1657, Hurst and 2 others Thank this. -
Well, I'm flatbed, leased to a carrier, cash truck, little overhead.
I've found an agent consistently at $1.70 TTT ALL miles, after carriers cut. 3 or 4 days a week work. Light loads. Predictable.
Suits my situation, supporting a household of 3.
Find a solution. One that's suits you.Liquidforce, 281ric, RERM and 3 others Thank this. -
I appreciate your answer im buying another truck next week and when i buy my 3rd one im thinking to get my own authority but for insurance rates i wont be doing it less than 3 trucks since im from florida. Also i have some shippers from florida but all local and that wont pay much. I need serious shippers pays decent and i have no idea how to make a contact with them. What would you recommend if you dont mind me asking what would be the best way to approach to a shipper for a constant load?

The only way to avoid the brokers is to find direct freight.
I'm in pretty much the same boat. I dont blame brokers or anyone other than truckers themselves for the way rates are today. Supply and demand,.. the rates will be what ever the demand supports. If you dont like a rate,.. dont take it. Its as simple as that. Problem is,.. someone is covering the load at the rate they are posting,.. else the rates would be more.
So the cold hard reality is that we can only blame ourselves for the way the rates are.

Definitely everyone is different and has different needs. I basically live in the truck and go home every 6 months or so i believe i deserve more than what im getting right now. To be honest i change my shirt 4 times a day if i pu and delivery same day and the drink at least 12-15 bottles of water in summer working and sweating under sun. We as flatbed drivers for our hardwork deserve way more than $1.77 thats what i thinkMattflat362, brodgers, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this.

Thats true and thats what i do... i dont take cheap loads but what happens is someone takes it and i sit all day long for nothing and at 5pm i have to take whatever is left over and drive 700 miles all night then deliver 7am. I understand your point but if im not taking it someone else is going to take it. As you said we should blame ourselves for this but we should be the one who will find a solution to it

You already know the solution. You can not blame a broker for earning a living. Its like blaming a used car salesman for over charging you for a POS used car. He doesnt force people to come buy his cars.
Too many truckers are like sheeple that follow the heard and complain that the grass is greener on the other side. Not calling you a sheeple,.. only that this is what I think about the absurd number of naive rookie O/O's who do not know how much they need to operate and maintain their own truck. The insane number of people who think all they need to do is buy a truck and take what ever the largest gross paying load they can find. They post here on TTR all the time. The type of questions they ask often should have been asked long before they ever bought a truck.
If I havent found a good paying load by noon,.. I'll generally just park it for the night. Unless I really need to get out of where I am because I worked myself into a bad area,.. then it is what it is and the the cheap load is what we have to do in order to survive. I understand your complaint 100%. Just not sure your looking at things from the right perspective.
Brokers run into the same problems that we do. Push comes to shuv,.. and a load that needs to move that hasnt been covered will need to have the rate increased. I'm sure somewhere there is a broker complaining on some broker forum asking why he cant get his loads covered.
I'm from Fla too. If I cant get a good rate directly from shippers,.. then how can we possibly expect to get a good rate with a middle man involved? Brokers dont set the rates,.. we do. Rates are what they are because somewhere a driver agreed to load his truck at that rate.
The solution is supply and demand. Stop supplying shippers with cheap trucks to haul their freight and rates will go up. Thats the only logical solution.
