I have to wonder how hard he had to pull on the fifth wheel release to unhook?
landstar8891 Thanks this. -
I used to drive wreckers and I had to recover many trailers like this. Our wheel lift had a fifth wheel attachment that weighed about 50 lbs (not meant for long hauls, just quick recovery out of a bad spot so another truck can get it back moving). It worked great for recovering trailers in such an awkward positions since the height and angle of the wheel lift could easily be adjusted with the pull of some levers.
Really really stupid move on part of the Prime driver... he could have just asked for a ground guide to stop/alert traffic so he could have backed out... that is what the wrecker company had to do at the end.landstar8891 Thanks this. -
Never ever,EVER DISCONNECT the trailer when this happens....GEEZZZZZZZZ PRIME..

Back in Iraq we got a tractor/trailer combo stuck in the middle of a sandpit. Long story short, it was the idea of my driver and my endorsement to disconnect the trailer from the power unit in hopes that we could reposition our unit to get unstuck. My convoy commander also approved. Turned out to be a loooooooooooooooooooong night. KBR had to come recover my power unity, trailer, and HEMMIT that tried to pull us out.landstar8891 Thanks this.

Like the Prime truck that was sitting in the middle of the right lane on I44 last Sunday morning . . . Yes, the right lane . . . just sitting there . . . in the dark, 4 ways flashing (thank god the driver had the sense to turn those on at least) . . .123456 Thanks this.
