Hi, I am considering getting a CDL and driving, mostly because of some ads I found that make it appear I could find something with a flexible schedule. I think I am learning quickly that most of the ads are pure BS, but I have to ask anyway. I have a couple of options to get the CDL and that is not a problem. Finding a job that fits my schedule is my biggest problem.
My wife works a 9 to 5 job and we have a 2 year old. I’m trying to find something that would allow me to work evenings and nights but be home during the day when my wife is not. I can work evenings and nights 7 days a week, I don’t care. I just have to be home during the day when my wife is not here.
I saw an ad for a Schneider Flex Schedule job but no real info on the schedule possibilities. I’m hoping someone here can tell me if they have anything that would allow me to be home during daytime hours and an approximate idea of how that affects my pay. Thanks!

I sincerely hope you aren't looking to drive evenings and nights and be home during the day to watch your kid? When would you sleep? Driving a truck isn't like other jobs, you need your sleep.
I can't tell you much about the flex position, best thing is to a call recruiter, much of it depends on the area you live in. -
Probably a better idea to talk with a recruiter directly WHILE you are in school for your CDL. Nothing wrong with getting info beforehand, but no CDL = No CDL job.
-
Maybe over night stocking would work for your hours you need to be home.BuckeyeKev Thanks this.

You could also get a regular local driving job and pay for a sitter or daycare. It's all about how flexible you are willing to be. When you start adding more and more factors you aren't willing to accept or tolerate, job pool gets that much smaller.

I plan on talking to a recruiter but from reading through a lot of comments, I know better than to believe everything they say. I would believe someone here before I would believe a recruiter.
I'm asking because I have other options that don't require me dropping money for a CDL but we would have to hire a sitter. If I can drive nights and weekends, this would work out better. Thanks for the info though -
Like I posted to the other response, I'd believe someone with experience before I'd believe someone who gest paid when I sign something.
My wife and I have a rough idea on how we'd split sleeping and watching our kid but some of that is dependent on what hours I would be expected to work. we already know it is going to be tough. They don't call it the 'terrible twos' for nothing. Driving is just an option we're looking at. -
Pay is too low. I saw your other comment about a sitter and we've thought about it but depending on the job it could eat up my entire pay especially if it is something like stocking.

Not impossible however I doubt it.
Dave.in.PA Thanks this. -
Thanks. I'm going to talk to a recruiter but I doubt I am going to do it. Our kid comes first and if I have to be away from home, I've had other offers that pay 2 times what I could driving, although in a high cost of living area. if I could be home during the day this would have worked out great.
