Not long...I don't remember but there was someone younger than me, (25) and was already an instructor.
Think a year? Or 5 I can't remember -
You need a minimum of 1 year to become a TE. It pays $40 a day per student. You get all the miles. As far as being an Instructor, you need years of driving experience and a good track record of students as a TE!
Edit: Just looked back and saw you have 4 years as a driver. If that is true they may look at you with 6 months with the company. But that depends on who the safety and training manager is at your home OC. -
At least one year OTR experience, bonus eligible for the last 2 quarters, recommended by your DBL, and approved by either your OPs manager or Regional Manager

I have actually been giving this some serious thought, dunno if I can sit passenger in my own truck though, i actually was a driver trainer in my previous career
BigBrin Thanks this. -
John actually told me after my SQT that I should expect them to contact me about being a TE in 6 months or so. I questioned him (not sure I want to do that, honestly) because I thought I'd need more time behind the wheel - you guys remember that I have had my CDL since January 30, 2014, right? - and he said they need TEs pretty badly so they are looking at some a bit early. Being female might have something to do with that, too, because they're only a few female TEs. Drove to Des Moines from Green Bay to meet mine.
In a way, I took it as a compliment, but I also felt kinda pushed. If I'm not comfortable, I won't do it anyway, however hard they push. -
Yes, we are DESPERATLY short of female trainers, or male trainers who will take females. Just something to keep in the back of your mind. TE pay works out to be between an "extra" $5-8,000. "Extra" because you end up working for that money. There are days that would be nice, short easy days by myself that end up bumping up against the end of the 14.
Sitting in the right hand seat does take some getting used to. What really sucks is having to stand outside when it's -20 and sleeting as the trainee spends what feels like 3 hours backing into a wide open dock. If you have the patience it can be worth it. But you must be patient.James j, BigBrin, 91B20H8 and 1 other person Thank this. -
