Witnessed a roll/flip of a pickup west bound as I was east bound, right in front of me in Colorado east of Denver. Something flew across my side of the road and landed 10 foot in the shoulder grass in my side. I hoped it was something out of the bed but it wasn't.
Big trucks may be a little different, but in a layover scenario? no seat belt? Body parts can become separated if the ### leaves the seat.

I can contest to that. I had my brakes go out on my way onto I71 in KY x43, couldn't merge back, median continued into a curbed grass area and oncoming traffic was coming, so the turn got to me before I could pull the emergency brake.
Long story short I tried to ease it into the on ramp and layed it over onto the guard rail. when I came to rest the guard rail was in my truck and I was dangling by my seat belt. The guard rail was just a foot or so from my face. I walked out without a scratch, just a damaged pride.Last edited: Aug 28, 2016

Yet recently someone here admitted to not wearing their seatbelt. Like holding a gun to your head acting like you think it wouldn't happen to you because "you're in control"

Really hard to say.
You never know when or where..or how........
Company I was working for have had two fatalities.
First one driver will be alive if he wasn't buckled up.
Second one was killed by his truck landed on him.
In both cases insurance company deny to pay family.

After my wife's friend's 2 kids hit the same tree (1 year apart) both flipped and totaled the cars...but both walked away(after being cut out because the cars were so mangled)...I don't leave the driveway without a seatbelt being on.
I saw a fatality crash 15 years ago on a TX 4-lane. Neither were wearing seatbelts. 1 died on impact with a tree after being thrown out of the van, the other had to be life flighted with massive internal trama. To this day I still see the dead guy's face as we were covering him.texasbbqbest, rachi and Lepton1 Thank this. -
"I've never had to cut the seat belt off a dead man."

I had a condo for years backed up to the northbound I 5 freeway in Stockton CA. One Saturday afternoon I hear this gawdawful boom and look out from my balcony and see this car severed in half, two women laying out in the little ravine, and their mother's body in pieces, some in the car some up on the freeway and the rest stuck in a tree.
Fire ambulance and police show up and I hear Fire yelling to pull out the hose and wash off the blood so the passing public can't see it, Ambulance was laying out yellow tarp sheets covering up body parts and getting the 2 women evacuated to local hospitals.
Then the tow trucks came and got rid of the front and back of the car and some city people came out and cut the bloody tree down.
For years I never wore my seatbelt, and when it first became law I did get busted a couple of tickets for not wearing it. The first time I was wearing my thick carhartt jacket and the seatbelt would be too tight. After that I would just pull enough slack and clip it off with a spring clip and lay it over my shoulder and go.
One rainy very windy day I got this hinky feeling and decided to clip the seatbelt in, good thing I did because while changing lanes in very heavy rain with about 2 inches of water on the road, my rear tire bounced up on a road turtle reflector and came down on top of the water causing a hydroplane event. I was going down the road sideways and tboned into the beginning of a guardrail which punctured the rear door, luckily not my door otherwise would have crushed my hips and back. At that moment right before impact, since I knew I was going to die and hoped it wouldn't hurt too bad, I closed my eyes as tight as I could next thing I know, the truck had rolled over a couple times down the embankment and landed upside down in some shallow water ditch. I was suspended in the seatbelt perfectly safe, grabbing my arms and legs and package I knew I was OK. Only problem i had was a sore neck when I let the seatbelt go all my body weight was on my head and neck til I could roll around and crawl out the windowtexasbbqbest, Lepton1, rachi and 2 others Thank this.
