I went to renew my DOT physical several months ago,at the local Concentra. I have been using that same location for over 40 years, even before it was Concentra. My physicals have always been perfect, always two years.I have low blood pressure, see and hear fine. When I got into my 60's,I found it is harder to keep weight off,but I'm pretty much the same I've always been. After passing all the normal stuff,a young tattooed female Dr. of some foreign descent, tells me I have to take a sleep apnea test, and then conveniently has locations where I can go,and she will give me a 90 day card. Even though this is not law,Concentra is apparently in bed with the testing outfit. Told her what she could do with her 90 day card and her sleep apnea testing, thanks for stealing my money.
Left, and went up the road to another DOT approved medical center where my son always gets his DOT done. Couldn't be any nicer, passed with flying colors,Dr. who was the same age as me said he wished he was in good a shape as I was,as he was on all kinds of medicine, and I don't take anything. No mention of sleep apnea BS,gave me my 2 year card, have a nice day. Will never darken Concentras doors againBigtruck860 and Lonesome Thank this. -
Not in Md. I have my 2 year physical on file, went to the DMV and checked.

If your neck is wider than 17 inches you potentially have sleep apnea
-
Concentra records the 90 day medical card with the state. That means
a record has been established that "A Doctor" considered you to be at risk
for sleep apnea. If you can not prove that you have been tested that record
could well come back to haunt you at some time in the future.
I sure hope it works out for you.
For the record, sleep apnea testing is the hoax of the century. I
think the medical industry should be stopped over this.........but for
now we are stuck with it. -
I agree on it being a huge hustle.
Anyhow,I just called and talked to Concentra at Pulaski Hwy. here in Baltimore where I used to go. The girl told me specifically they do not send it to the state of Md,that is entirely up to me.
When I had my last physical done,I took it in person to the DMV to register it. The lady assured me it was good for another 2 years. Not that I don't trust them, but I like to make sure things are done correctly, esp. when dealing with civil servants. I thank you for your concern, but it's all a moot point anyway. I've been retired for almost 3 years after driving a semi for over 45 years. Haven't driven a truck since, and don't plan on ever driving another one. Just like keeping my AM license and TX endorsements up. -
Regulators Pull Plan To Test Truckers, Train Operators For Sleep Apnea
I’ll just leave this here. 10 accidents rail and truck over 17 years...
If that doesn’t tell you that CPAP is a scam, then you aren’t paying attention.. -
Their implementation was poor, but not breathing is hardly a scam.
-
Their implementation is purely a scam.
Pardon if you took my words to mean Apnea in of itself is a scam.
However, I do not believe one will simply fall asleep driving because of it. -
You cannot go doctor shopping. But you are allowd to go to a different doctor for another physical. To get a second opinion. You must give the second doc all of the same info you gave the first. If that doc then passes you you are good to go.Aamcotrans Thanks this.
