So, i bought a 2013 kenworth t660
The previous owner put a Tripac unit on it, but it does not work. Eitherway if it did, i would not use it because i team drive and it wouldnt work. Anyways, question is does the tripac unit cut off my standard AC to the sleeper? We have a studio sleeper, and the truck is running 24/7 on our trips, the ac back here does not work but the fans do (standard fans not tripac fans).
So, is that caused by the tripac being installed?
Sleeper ac and apu.

Unless some gomer installed the APU and did a lot of crap he shouldn't have done, the APU HVAC system (including duct work) is supposed to be completely independent of the truck's sleeper HVAC system. Or at least every one I've dealt with was.

Okay thank you, now i know what to focus on fixing. Also, do you know if its possible to have my APU run while the truck is on idle? So it can work as my partner is driving?
-
Jenya the tripac can be setup to work when truck is idling, when no idling, when your(driver) are not nearby...
-
Why? The APU does nothing that the truck motor itself can't do, except turn on and off based on a thermostat.
Once the temperature gets to where you want it, adjust the vent temperature and go to sleep.
The APU is a fuel saving device. Running it when the engine is running just wastes fuel. -
Do you know if the APU has a "shore power" outlet in the Sleeper? If so, then it might make sense to allow it to run while driving so co driver can run a microwave or what not. Otherwise running the APU while driving does not make much sense typically, as long as there is a good working inverter in the truck to power incidental things for the co driver
-
You would need a pretty long exstenion cord to use shore power while the truck was rolling down the road. LolLast edited: May 30, 2018
Baty Dispatch and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
There is only one reason to have your apu running while the truck is.
And it's if your alternator has stopped working , it can help you make it to a repair shop by keeping your batteries alive.
And yes it can be programed to run like that.
Apu' s are for climate control and keeping batteries charged.
When the truck is running co/driver can do 'whatever' using the inverter.
As far as the sleeper a.c. not working , well that could be a number of things you'll need to take it to a trust worthy shop. -
LOL! You have bigger problems than your APU. Just saying.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
If you bought a truck, then you can afford to get it fixed right by a shop,
