Any prescription meds you have need to be in a bottle and have the label from the pharmacy on them with your name and Dr, as well as what it is, that would be a Dr's note. If you are just carrying them around, Swift Security would not be your big issue, LEO's would be, almost every state prohibits carrying prescriptions medication without a prescription. I would not take anything on a truck with alcohol, you are asking for trouble, and most likely termination if it is found by DOT, or your trainer accidentally sees it, or even another student.
If you are nervous about riding with someone you don't know, they don't know you either, how do they know you are not the axe murderer your parents told you about?

Also, having prescription medicines in your system, that affects your driving will incur a DUI. Under influence. Arrest you just as quick on that as for a loose pill without it's bottle and label etc. Even the count of pills in your prescription bottles WILL be counted and checked against elasped dates and hours since last refill. It must match up. If you are one or more pills short it's a severe red flag for diversion, sales or addiction.

Do not be in a 18 wheeler with medicine if you can all avoid it. Even driving a private car you own is just as bad with some medicines inside or on you. I am a pain patient myself and am very careful what activities I do when. What I do use is a period of time towards the end of the month without any medicine so I can get caught up on the errands etc without fear of DUI or anything. Im pretty strict about that.

My Spouse goes to the VA and she used to have a couple pills in the center console. That's a no no. I had to get on her to clear the vehicle of loose pills. Out. none at all.

Also. Law enforcement are trained to modify or adjust road side testing starting with your eyes when you are on certain medicines. Especially opiates or muscle relaxers etc. Your eyes fail to track a pen light at 3 feet smoothly, it is a medical diagnosis of you being under influence of some kind of drug in your system. OR a head injury etc. It's so easy to detect someone on something. Hairs on arms are vertical, pupils are larger than they need to be in daylight and they are somewhat working at 100 mph with words and hands as well as sneezing or sniffing etc. You can see em a mile away.

If you want to drive a big truck, you need to try to do it without any medicine. That allows your brain, nerves, body systems to be 100% working so that if something comes up and someone is fixing to get run over, you can process the problem and do what you have to do to not kill someone. There is no margin for error throwing a big rig around during those times.

In over 10 years on the road I have never needed to defend myself from an attack. Now, I am man but I have also never seen anyone, women included, attacked. While security should never be taken lightly, this job really isn't too dangerous. The only truck stops that make me nervous are the ones in Atlanta. Also, no one has ever searched my truck except once going into Canada which is why I do not cross borders anymore.

my meds dont involve my alertness and death would eventually happen not to mention disorientation and hair loss, lethargy, weight gain, memory issues and so on... not worried about LEOs and I always leave them in the bottles, also dont need a note I have traveled alot and well never even questioned but you do need to have them in the bottle and only the person whos name is on it can carry medicine except children of course... most medication people take makes them work better not sloppy... I only worried about my company and only when training starts... I was just as concerned about the knife protection that I did not want to leave behind... even if the only thing I use it for is worry relief :)
as for drinking... been on medicine all my life (that death thing) I dont ever drink... not to mention alcoholism runs in my family and I am not a fan of control.. I quit things that I like too much... even Coke Cola, sugar, cigarettes, (sugar was the hard one) and yes I have issues with some ppl trying to control me.. it a quick way to get cut out of my life :D cuz I am like that Joy
