I've been pulling a stinger for so long then I don't pay a lot of attention to box trucks anymore, and I'm just not normally in the same place they are. But I saw this today, and while I'm not crazy about how it looks, it's a hell of a good idea. A retractable tether rather than a pogo stick or slide bar, allowing much longer lines.
I think I'd have to hide the reel down low though, and just have a smaller, less obtrusive idler up high.

Ive never seen one of thise before, but is is a pretty good idea. I just put a coil in my lines and 2 spring retractor.

I thought about doing this myself but i went with the springs. A tether could get jammed up or fail to recoil. Then not only do you rip out your airlines and damage hardware, but most likely break the tether and whatever its mounted to as well. Spring accomplishes the same job with none of the downsides. Just my opinion.

Monson and Sons had those custom made on an idea their shop guys had. Pretty convenient when you pull different type trailers with same tractor.

Going into way to much thought on this idea..
yes the tarp strap broke, but hook keeps line from sliding to far to left, as the tarp strap used too.
My 4 lines, and the air reel I put on nose of trailer, got a 5ft jumper with quick connect and gladhand to air up the reel, good for 50’
Plus I put a quick connect in middle of trailer I can hook a quick connect to there.God prefers Diesels, Bean Jr., Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Fruehauf used to put the gladhand box in the middle and halfway up the front of their trailers. P-I-E and C-F used to spec them in the right side of truck. It was high enough that lines hardly ever rubbed on a frame or catwalk. I always thought they should have kept doing that as a standard practice on all vans. Some trailers have them down to low close to the pinch point.

$275 for a tensioner? No thanks.

What’s the weight rating on that thing? Could be a great way for new drivers to end things once they realize what they’ve gotten into
Dennixx Thanks this. -
