Is there really a noticeable difference between using tri-rail chains and singles when it comes to climbing steep snow covered grades? Also, I've been only chaining up my passenger side tire (got tired of dodging snow plows & other trucks) and I've been doing well going uphill with my differential lock on. Is this a good practice or am I just pushing my luck?

Yes you are lucky. A Single on drivers still has the other tire barefoot. You will spin out it's just a matter of time or should I say Snow. If your going to throw Iron......put the 3 railers on. Then if ya spin out well it was not because you did not have enough Iron on. If you are concerned about plows, ect. turn your truck at a angle and use your trailer as a shield.

what your doing is not legal out west for chain requirements. Minimum chains in Colorado is one on each outboard drive tire of your primary drive axle. Using one chain on one tire only can earn you a $500 ticket.

Hanging Iron. Chain two & one. Drives first, Left Front tire, then limp to a truck stop and park it. If it's that bad you need to park it. Wait on the Sand man. Never seen a dispatcher chain up an office chair.

If you get paid to chain, just do it right..I've been at near gross on three railers on the drives, and still get stuck sometimes.

At con-way, not running max chains at all times and you wreck or spin out = fired if you wreck or a writeup.

Thx. They do pay us to chain. So I will do it the right way from now on based on everyones advice. I used to have singles and tri-rails. They took my singles when my truck went in for maintenance at the company depot.

They will also can us if we wreck. Spun out twice, but they didnt care.

Only reason why i am asking about the difference is cause I am about to go raid the supply closet and find me another set of singles.
