Yes - every company is different.

ODFL I believe gave 2 weeks a year to start, 3 after a few years, then 4 after 5-7 years. Calculated at 40 hours on the hourly rate of $25/hour. They were pretty good at giving us unpaid time off when we needed for family matters, or if we were simply worn out - safety reasons.

We tried to work with them on taking time off, either paid or unpaid, as freight demand warranted. It's a 2 way street.

Swift does not give the option in the first place. They simply pay you the vacation pay.
If you want to take a week off because you have the extra pay, that is your choice.

I never take the time off either. I use the money for Christmas presents, since it comes in early December.

And the trouble with being a company driver and taking a week off is that you would have to clean out your truck, and wait to be reassigned a different truck when you came back to work.

I get a month of paid holidays or 8% of annual gross. In Ontario employers must pay 4% minimum annual vacation pay as well as 10 paid stat holidays annually

There plenty of employers out there that offer that, once you've shown you deserve it.

In Ireland, all my siblings get 6-7 weeks off. Now, granted two work for the government, one more or less sets his own hours and the other works in a nursing home. England is the same.
Its definitely not a deal breaker with an employer at all. I was just wondering how other companies do it. While we love to travel, we understand the way things are here.

I work for the government and we get up to 12 weeks of Annual Leave which can be used as vacation time. We also get accrued sick days that rolls over year after year. We also get paid OT after 8, doubletime after 10, and double and a half after 12 or 60.

Government jobs is where it's at for vacation time.

I get a week off after staying out for a month at a time. Some guys say wow that's too much time off every month no it's not it's like having weekends off just all in a row.
