So it didn't take me long to figure out that having a house wasn't really worth it while OTR...just not home enough. So when I moved back to the midwest two years ago I sold the house, put everything in storage and have been using my brother's address for mail and everything while I've been OTR.

Over time I've been wanting a place again but will likely have to make some changes as far as schedule...has anyone been able to make it work with having a house and maybe doing a regional run and home over the weekend, or some kind of dedicated run where you can get through the house a bit more often?

I’d get a place out in country. That way I can park truck and trailer there on home time and no city saying can’t be done.

Yeah, that’s exactly my situation. I go out on Sunday evening, home for dinner on Friday. I work maybe 3-4 weekends a year, voluntarily. I’m married, with a stepdaughter and grandson living with us, but I could definitely see myself living in a nice small house if I was single. I’d make friends with my neighbors and make sure they had my phone number in case there was an issue.

It's difficult if you don't have a way to look after the property when you're gone. I just rented my house out when I was OTR and handled it that way. I've got family/friends but long term that wasn't the best option. You come home and have all these chores is the reality.

I don't know anything about this company, but I'd check it out. That's a nice area along Interstate-80.
No state income taxes in Nevada.

If you are single, with no roommates or anyone other adults living in the house -- & you own the home as a truck driver --

Consider owning a home as a 2nd job.

    Period.

When I was last OTR, I was on a dedicated account that got me home every weekend. I had a place to park the truck within walking distance of my house.

I also had family and friends that could check on the house and get my mail and stuff if needed. It worked out all right I guess, but even being home every weekend wasn't without its challenges. Only got two days to cram in mowing the lawn, doing laundry, shopping, pay bills, etc. Ultimately I ended up going local and never looked back.

Decide what area you want as a home base, buy a used late model RV and set up in a RV park.
