Well, I agree some trucking companies do treat their drivers as well as the industry will allow, I’ve never really seen a true “family“ environment at a trucking company. You go out, you mess something up, you get in a major at fault accident or something like that and you’re gonna find out real quick that you’re not actually family. Lol your family will actually still be there for you. The trucking company will rightfully get rid of you if you do something stupid. That said, companies do treat drivers very differently depending on where you land. I consider the company. I’m at now to treat their drivers about as good as the industry can, the last company I was at? Not so much. In fact, not so much at all. Lol it’s like night and day. And I plan to retire where I’m at.

as for recruiters? If you’re a good trucking company and you treat your drivers well, the word gets around and I don’t even think you need a recruiter. Recruiters are hired BSers. Bever believe anything they tell you and I cringe at their cheesy bumper, sticker slogans that they throw at you.

Better after they say that and you call and they say what’s your driver number then your truck number even let you on or off property.

    Here are my favorites.

    1. "We value home time."
    2. "We have the best pay package in the industry."
3."The average length of haul is x amount of miles."
    4. "We honor detention and lay over pay."
    5. "We are x% no touch freight."
    6. "We pay loaded and empty miles."
    7. "Our drivers are like family."

To paraphrase Groucho Markx, I don't want to work for a company that would hire someone like me.

More like pray on Sunday, and prey the rest of the week.

This. I recently left a small tanker outfit in Illinois that was "family focused" and "faith based" when in reality the owner was a raging alcoholic who treated his drivers like 2nd class citizens.

They say - "our trucks are equipped with the latest technology to keep you safe". I hear - we have all the latest nanny sensors and driver distraction devices to annoy the crap out of you.

They say - "Our pay is competitive". I hear - we only pay our drivers what we have to, and not a penny more

They say - "we pay via 1099 to save you taxes". I hear - we can't afford to pay via w2 because the employer contribution of the FICA is too high.

They say - "fuel card provided". I hear - we're a 1099 company but don't want to advertise it because it inhibits us from getting drivers in the door.

They say - "safety is our highest priority". I hear - we've had a lot of safety issues and the DOT is cracking down, so we have to micromanage everything you do.

For a while I kept seeing trailers with a big banner reading “2500$ a week… nothing to buy”. The old saying “if it looks too good to be true it probably is” kept coming to mind every time I see one of those.

I remember when SRT rolled out those trucks with the Collision Mitigation Systems. The first one I had was a Peterbilt 579. It was also recalled because it had transmission issues. I remember being caught in California traffic and it stuck in gear while the traffic behind me was more than pissed off. Also, if that radar caught even the faintest thing in front, it would slow down and again be stuck in gear as it wouldn't downshift. And of course, if that radar was messed up, you had no cruise control. I was then thrown into a Freightliner Cascadia which was a little better, but with a CMS also. I'd gotten so many calls behind that thing malfunctioning and cars cutting me off which caused hard braking events. After one particular call, I kindly told the company, "If you call me just one more time over this ####ing radar, I'm cutting the wires to it and bringing you your truck." They never called again. Everything else in your post is spot on though. Lastly, I've seen the damage those 1099 companies can do.
