I have been looking at several laptop log book programs, such as DDL.com, Dieselboss.com, LLBlogbooks.com, etc. They all seem to do the same and have trial periods, but which is the easiest to use? Looking for feed back on the programs that are out there.

I run the DDL and have no problems. Easy to use and update.

Eclipse logs sold by Dieselboss is an affordable and decent program.
However, do NOT purchase directly from Eclipse.....Direct support is poor and per their web site
they can charge $20 PER call, even during the initial year. They are only available
9-5, which is not helpful to the truckers out here.

Dieselboss fully supports this software directly and he is very accessible if you need anything.
I am confident he can handle 99.9% of any issues that arise...

    Dieselboss Thanks this.

DDL seems to be the most popular, and from what I hear, it is easy to use and update.

Don't forget, when you are using a laptop for your log book, you must print out and sign your previous day's logs and present them when requested. Just having them on your laptop will not work.

I have been looking into these as well but have a few reservations, what happens if your laptop crashes or other technical problems?

I am a old hand looking to better paperwork handling, but having a log book on paper to hand to DOT is hard to mess up unless one is a total fool.

I'll second the Eclipse program. Much more user friendly, easier to navigate and modify your logs in that program. Plus, it has a fax function to submit to any fax, so you have hard copy at the office immediately.

aiwiron, you can back them up to a thumb drive and reload them on any computer. Thumb drives are cheap now days. Just get into the habit of saving the daily log and then backing them up like once a week. If you loose a few days, the program allows you to go in and back date to complete your data.

note: I can only answer your question as pertains to the Eclipse version.

    A. If the laptop crashes you click the free download link again on your new computer and then click "Unlock" in the Help menu at the top. Put in the email and password that you used when you first registered it and it unlocks it on the new computer.

You can do this on any number of computers that you want.

    B. If you backed up your logs to the server, you restore them from the server the same way. If you backed them up to a thumb drive, you restore them from the thumb drive. If you backed them up and then emailed the backup to yourself where it resides on a web-based email service (like Yahoo, GMail, MSN Hotmail, etc) then you sign into your email and get it from there to restore old logs. If you chose not to back them up at all, then you type in your last 8 days and you are legal again.

    C. As far as support, if you got the file from my site, then you call and we answer.

scalemaster, are you saying they have to be printed out beforehand or when asked for them. or could they be faxed directly from eclipse like a eobr type log

i use a digital signature, paid 5.00 extra for that, sent them a copy of my signature and they sent me the digitized version. should be the same as a carbon copy i guess.

i have been checked in al, oh and ga, no one complained that i had not printed them all. i guess since mine is a wireless setup i began printing while standing outside with the officer

My .02, if you buy a cheap notebook. Buy one with a Solid State Drive or replace the hard drive with a SSD. No moving parts in a SSD :biggrin_25525: The thumb drive is the other solution to this.
