Hello fraternity! need some help once again. Im looking into a truck and in my head ive pretty much already bought it but before I actually do I wnted to get some opinois from some of the folks here. The question I have is what to expect out of the drivetrain setup. Its and a DETROIT DD15 400HP, 12 SPEED AUTOMATIC with the 2.41. anybody got any experience, thoughts, ideas about this combo? i heard about the trans clutch issues. i test drove it and it shifted sweet. had a blinking def light on and initially the solid engine light as well. I took it for about a 30 minute test and the engine light with the check illuminated too. So three lights iluuminated buthe time i got back. The salesman got the codes andll be letting me know when that repair is done. So I guess Im asking what tyoe of loads and or terrain can i handle IYO.
What should I expect.

You do not want ANYTHING to do with a truck that has emissions lights. The dealers idea of a fix will be a code clear and MAYBE a dpf clean if your lucky. You will get raked over the coals and you will get ####ed especially with the "its already sold" mentality. I beg you do NOT pull a me here. You WILL regret it. Take several steps back and if you MUST have that truck find a 3rd party or even better find a competitor to send a mechanic and tools along to evaluate the #### out of that truck. I assure you it will fail. -
The 400 hp with the 2.41s? I hope you don't plan on pulling any hills with that setup. Its barely adequate on flat land at 60k. Need the 465 hp model to pull 80k decently, and the 505 hp model for the mountains.
Next up, why would you even consider an emissions truck with warning lights coming on during the test drive? Especially if more were on than when you pulled out? You are asking... no BEGGING for bankruptcy. -
Codes rarely get things “repaired”. They pick a part to replace and clear the codes. You drive 30 minutes down the road and get the codes again. Then they pick a different part/sensor and play the game again.

Heck my non emissions is a rolling disaster because I happened to pick a shoddy engine rebuilder lol. Screwed up a Series 60 in a FLD120. A simple engine and a simple truck.
OP…….don’t do it. What is the price, year and Mileage? Just curious.Coffey, Cattleman84, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
