Was driving through that nice little storm in Wisconsin Saturday. Came out of Minnesota on I94 and about the 10mm there is a 4 wheeler of in the median. Not sure how they managed that but I'm sure they weren't thinking.
This happened going around a right bend in the road. State Trooper is parked in the hammer lane, partway around the bend. Not sure what he was thinking parking in the lane instead of on the shoulder.
Not much traffic but I wasn't surprised when I caught up to traffic creeping along just before the 10 as I had already been warned about it. As I'm slowing to go around the trooper on the right shoulder I notice super trucker coming up pretty quick in my left mirror. Not sure what he was thinking but he obviously didn't have it on channel 19 and wasn't concerned about the fact there was very slow moving traffic and everyone was in the right lane. Thought he was going to smoke the Trooper but he did get it stopped just in time.
Now here comes Mr. I have a 4X4 pickup. Again, someone who didn't think anything of traffic moving way slower than just the storm would explain. Fortunately for the Trooper super trucker showed up first because that pickup didn't slow down a whole and hit the back of that trailer doing about 40mph instead of broadsiding the Troopers car which was angled across the lane. Had he hit that one he would have bounced into traffic instead of off into the median.
Stopped to get fuel a little further along and saw some carnage in the T/S. Talked to one driver who, like the one I witnessed, got into a situation where he had to come to a stop in the hammer lane and got rear ended by a big truck. Saw another one that had rear ended someone. Another was being towed in.
The rest of the day I saw countless 4 wheelers off the road and a good number of trucks and I bet everyone of them could have been avoided with a couple of simple thoughts. Don't go too fast and don't put yourself in a position where you have to do anything too fast.
Why don't they think

Hey Tim living here in Wisconsin I can tell you that the idiots that drive in this state need to be shot. Every winter this kind of crap happens up here...and the kicker is that most of these people have lived up here all their #### lives. No excuse and really you can't fix stupid
-
What the heck were you doing driving in that crap anyway?

You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what others were thinking. It's bes to concentrate on your own thinking.... You'll be able to keep a portion of your sanity that way.

Hibernating would have been my choice! Wait, it was! We stayed inside the whole day. Most of yesterday too, except for clearing some of the driveway and sidewalk.

Seriously though, I thought about shutting down. If the roads had been a little worse or if there had been more traffic I would have. As it was I was rarely anywhere near another moving vehicle. I did catch up to a few but matched their speed and stayed well back. Only one lane was clear and I wasn't going to risk running anyone off the road by dusting them or intimidate them by getting anywhere close. They all exited before too long and I continued on. Almost everyone still on the road was driving in a manner I considered safe. The only one who wasn't passed me but I passed him a little further on after he put it in the ditch.

I was surprised today when we took my 19 year-old back to La Crosse to college. The stretch between Tomah and WI Dells only showed signs of three trucks having had problems, not counting the Swift they were standing upright with cranes on our way there and back (cranes hadn't arrived on our way up!). Usually, there are a lot more along that stretch of road.
Sounds like almost everyone either stayed home or drove very safe! I'm impressed! Glad you made it through fine.
